Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 2:00 a.m. in "The City."

I'll start out by saying that the weather yesterday was better than the jerky that Mary and I made in the kitchen. I don't know what went awry, but the stuff, while edible, is bland. I think it needs more spices like tamari and bourbon.

At any rate, when I was outside with the fur-children around 12:45 a.m., the skies were cloudy and the temperature was 51° as we drop towards tonights anticipated low of 45°. However, the temperature will rebound later today and we should reach a high of 70 sunny degrees. The weather should cooperate with our plans to do some yard work. I can't say the same for my sacroiliitis though, as the exercises that my therapist has me doing at home seem to be aggravating, not helping. I'll see him again on Monday afternoon. Sigh.

Sports news yesterday was mostly good, that is if you are a college football fan as I am. The Wolverines of Michigan welcomed the Bearcats of Cincinnati to the Big House in Ann Arbor and got off to a rocky start before rebounding to take the game 36 - 14. That gives the Wolverines a 2 - 0 record in the Big 10, but they were heavily penalized for some dumb things. Head Coach, Jim Harbaugh, was not happy with that. A win is a win, but that type of play leads to losses against stronger teams. The Wolverines play the Falcons of Air Force next week @ 12:00 p.m.

The Spartans of MSU also won yesterday, 28 - 14 over the Broncos of Western Michigan and also moved to 2 - 0 in the Big 10. The Spartans are off for a week and have the chance to practice and get better for their next opponent, the Irish of Notre Dame, who lost to Georgia 19 - 20. The Spartans next game is Saturday, September 23, @ 8:00 p.m.

The Huskies of Northern Illinois University took one from the Eastern Illinois Panthers yesterday, 38 - 10 to move to 1 - 1 in the Mac 10. The Huskies will struggle this year against stronger opponents like their next opponents, the Cornhuskers of Nebraska. However, the Huskers are not the team they used to be as they lost yesterday to the Ducks of Oregon, 35 - 42. That loss by the Huskers does not bode well for the Huskies, as Nebraska will be looking to beat up on their next foe and avenge their loss and soothe their wounded pride. The Huskers and the Huskies play @ 11:00 a.m. next Saturday.

The Cubs flat out stunk up the joint yesterday as Mike Montgomery and the Cubs once again fell victim to the Brewers, 2 - 15. Montgomery seems to pitch well against most teams, but the Brewers are another matter altogether. The Cubs avoided the shutout, but they were never really in the game. That loss finds the Cubs just three games ahead of the Brewers and the Cardinals as they meet the Brewers in the final game of their NL Central series and try to win one out of three. Yesterday's loss gives the Cubs a record of 77 - 65. Kyle Hendricks goes to the mound to make that try today @ 2:20 p.m., EDT.

My beloved Red Sox easily trounced the Rays of Tampa Bay yesterday, 9 - 0 to stay solidly in 1st place, 4.5 games ahead of the Yankees in the AL East, with a record of 81 - 61. The Sox looked great as they took the lead and never looked back. The Sox and the Rays play later today @ 1:35 p.m. EDT.

The Tigers, well, nothing has changed. They recorded their latest loss to the Bluejays yesterday, 4 - 5 to fall to 60 - 81 in the AL Central. They are just playing out the string and they face the Bluejays again today @ 1:07 p.m.

In pro football, the Bears open their season at home against the Atlanta Falcons today @ 1:00 p.m. CDT. The Bears hope to improve on last year's 3 - 13 season this year with an improved offense and a new QB. We shall see.

The Lions open against the AZ Cardinals today, also @ 1:00 p.m., but in this case, EDT. The Lions gave QB Matthew Stafford a huge contract in the off season, so let's hope he proves worth it.

As previously noted, we'll do some yard work today after a walk with the fur-children later this morning. I won't overdo it as I want to make progress and not regress in my quest to rehab my sacroiliitis. A man has to know his limitations. That means that I'll spend more time reading rather than working. I will do my exercises, but who knows how much they will help.

The sun will rise today @ 7:19 a.m. and set @ 8:03 p.m. Ciao.
