The sun rose this morning into clear-skies @ 6:06 a.m. and it will set later @ 9:21 p.m. In between, the NWS has issued an Air Quality Alert for Allegan, Kent, Lake, Mason, Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa, and Van Buren counties in Michigan. People should avoid refueling cars, lawn mowers, gasoline cans, using charcoal grill starting fluid, etc. Strenuous outdoor activities should also be avoided for anyone with respiratory issues.
Our current temperature is 65° that feels like 65° under fair-skies that will be mostly sunny today with mixed clouds and a high-temperature of 74°. The overnight low tonight will drop to 62°, Oddly the NWS is showing a barometric pressure reading of 29.89" of Hg and rising, while my own DTWS is showing 29.35" of Hg and falling, often the harbinger of stormy weather.
I guess it is a good thing that Mary and I made it over to Mary's new Community Garden Plot located behind the Salvation Army building here in GH. We freshened and amended the soil and also planted the seedlings and flowers. Part of the garden is fenced to keep out the small critters, while part of it is open with cages.
We planted marigolds, two types of peppers, cabbage, and collard greens. I may have missed something, but as with Mary's crafts, where I can't remember whether she is working on cross-stitch or needle-point. Much like how I can never seem to remember that her yard art depicts Green Men, not Tree Men, I know that she will remind me later. At any rate, here is a pic I took of Mary's Green Man in the Vast Gardens of the Palatial Estate.
He has a back up planter to add to his glory. |
We'll get some pix of the auxiliary Vast Garden the season rolls on.
Somewhere in there, needing a short stop during our gardening adventures, we stopped in at the manse and fed the fur-children and let them out for their dinner business meetings
I came home to water part of our own Vast-Gardens here in the back-forty of the manse, and then we split our dinner into a first course of potato chips followed by a main course of vegan hot-dog wraps.
According to news reports, much of the lower part of Michigan is experiencing drought-like conditions, putting pressure on local farmers and their crops and necessitating my having to water the various plantings here at the manse and also requiring that Mary and her wing-gal, Ginger, to walk over to Mary's auxiliary Vast-Garden to water that plot at least every other day. Farming even as a hobby is a tough job.
I think I'll try to shorten my baseball report.
The 32 - 25 Cubs and losing RHP Jake Arrieta fell for the second time in as many games against the 36 - 21 Giants last night, 5 - 8. Tonight's game begins @ 7:15 p.m. EDT with RHP Kohl STewart, 1 - 0 on the mound.
My beloved 34 - 23 Red Sox traveled to NYC for a game last night against those damn 31 - 27 Yankees and the beloved came away with a 5 - 2 victory for starting pitcher RHP Nathan Eovaldi, 7 - 2. Tonight's game with LHP Eduardo Rodriguez, 5 - 4 commences @ 7:15 p.m. as Rodriguez hopes to return to form following a tough May record.
The 23 - 34 Tigers lost to that other 35 - 22 team from Chicago, last night, 8 - 9. RHP reliever Jose Cisneros l unable to shut the door on that other team and thus the loss. Today's game begins @ 2:10 p.m. when LHP Tarik Skubal, 2 - 7 goes for the Tigers.
Sadly, the 18 - 11 Caps were losers to the 14 - 14 Great Lakes Loons last night, 4 - 9. Tonight's game @ the Lake Michigan Credit Union ballpark, heretofore known as the LMCU ballpark, against the visiting Lansing Lugnuts, begins @ 7:05 p.m. when the Caps have their first Peanut-Free game day throughout the entire ballpark. For people with peanut allergies, this is a good idea.
Today, I have some indoor chores to do and perhaps some baking. I sat down her a while ago to practice my harmonica which I plan to get to shortly. Otherwise, my plans call for me to stay indoors. I don't know if Mary will be going to her alternate Vast-Gardens today or not. I know for certain that she is working on some cross-stitching project.
Oh, the electricity blipped @ 6:18 this morning which will probably necessitate my resetting several clocks here at the manse. Ciao.
