Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation and across the world. It is just past 2:00 a.m. in "The City."

The wind is blowing out of the north @ 4 mph, which makes the current temperature of 69° feel like 69° under fair-skies. Our overnight low is forecast by the NWS to fall to 63°. Concurrent with those temperatures, the NWS is reporting a barometric pressure reading of 29.88 " of Hg and rising, while my DTWS is showing 29.36" of Hg and falling.

Tomorrow's high temperature of 73° will be reached by late afternoon following a sunrise @ 6:04 a.m. and well before the sun sets @ 9:25 p.m., after which we can expect a low temperature of a very seasonal 61°.

We had a great day of doing as little as possible yesterday. I started a new novel, James Patterson's 21st Birthday and I am liking it a lot. Mary continues to read While Justice Sleeps by Stacy Abrams and she is enjoying it immensely too.

We accomplished the indoor chores yesterday and finished another crossword puzzle along with our reading. Mary made a terrific pizza for brunch yesterday too. She wanted to follow the KISS system for this one and only use her homemade dough, a wonderfully augmented tomato sauce, some nutritional yeast, along with some cheese that melts, atop a very thin crust. Combined, this was a great effort and I liked it a lot!

She compared her pizza to a commercial one we used to enjoy. I liked hers better.

The 37 - 27, tied for1st place with the Brewers in the NL Central Cubs, handily defeated the 32 - 32, 3rd place in the NL Central Cardinals, 7 - 2. Cubs' starter, RHP Kyle Hendricks, 8 - 4, surrendered only two home runs to the Cards, while the Cubs took advantage of a poor pitching effort by Cardinals' starter and loser, John Gant, who loaded the bases in the bottom of the 2nd and the Cubs capitalized. Suffice it to say he didn't last long. It looks like closer Craig Kimbrel is back to the form the Cubs hoped he would display as he got the save, his 17th.

The Cubs got home runs from Joc Pederson, Ian Happ, and Sergio Alcantara along with more clutch hitting by most of the other Cubs. However, once again, while Jason Heyward is still a great defensive player, his hitting stroke leaves much to be desired. The Cubs and the Cardinals play again tonight @ 7:08 p.m. EDT when RHP Zach Davies, 3 - 3 takes the mound.

My beloved, 39 - 26, 2nd in the AL East, Red Sox, looked terrible yesterday, as they lost big-time to the 32 - 30, 3rd place in the AL East Blue Jay's, 2 - 15. RHP Nick Pivetta started for the Sox, but he had nothing and neither did the Red Sox' relievers. Today's starting pitcher will be LHP Martin Perez, , 4 - 3 starting @ 1:10 p.m. EDT.

Good news. In mid to late August, LHP Chris Sale is expected to return from Tommy John surgery and give the Sox a much needed boost for a few starts. He looked good in short bursts off a real pitcher's mound recently.

The 26 - 38, 4th place in the AL Central Tigers are not doing very well against an obviously superior, 40 - 24, 1st place in the AL Central other team from Chicago, as the Tigers were drubbed, 2 - 15. Losing RHP Jose Urena, 2 - 6 added yet another loss to his 2021 record. Todays game @ Comerica Park will feature the stylings of RHP Kyle Funkhouser, 0 - 0 beginning @ 1:10 p.m. EDT.

The 19 - 15 White Caps handily defeated the 16 - 19 Lansing Lugnuts, 9 - 0. It safe to say that the Caps dismantled the Lugnuts. Today's game between the Caps and the Lugnuts begins in Grand Rapids @ 2:00 p.m. EDT.

I have it on good authority, that Mary made a vegan bologna to go with the rye bread she picked up yesterday @ Health Hutt. I'm looking forward to that later today.

Otherwise, not much is on tap for today. We may have to water our green-children with no rain in the forecast for the foreseeable future here in drought-stricken W. MI. But, I will have more time to read and do crossword puzzle solving, while Mary reads, walks to her auxiliary garden with Ginger, and continues on her latest needlepoint projec. That's enough for anyone. Ciao.
