Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation and
around the world. It is just past 7:00 a.m. in "The City."
We have a current temperature of 50º under cloudy skies. A
wind-speed of 8 mph makes it feel like 47º. Today's
high-temperature
forecast of 62º will be accompanied by a 50% chance for
showers throughout the day and into the evening. No watering for a few days.
The sun will rise this morning @ 7:18 a.m. EDT and it will set later this evening @ 8:04 p.m. EDT.
The arrival of fall-like weather before the official date of September 22, has meant lower temperatures for a few days, but by this weekend we'll be seeing temperatres in the lower 70º range then back to the 60s and so on. More seasonal and we love it!
The
23 - 18 Cubs took one from the 18 - 24 Reds last night, 3 - 0. Starting RHP Alec Mills, 4 - 3, pitched well for the win.
Right-fielder Jason Heyward has not yet returned to the lineup.
The Cubs optioned recently acquired OF/DH José Martínez to the South Bend alternate site to get his swing back and activated Billy Hamilton, a pinch runner and late inning defensive outfield replacement to take Martinez' spot on the major-league roster.
The Cubs play the Reds again tonight @ 8:15 p.m. EDT when RHP Yu Darvish, 7 - 1, 1.44 ERA goes for his next win. Apparently, Darvish has also put extra giddyup on his fastball to baffle opposing hitters.
My beloved 15 - 29 Red Sox split a doubleheader with the Philadelphia Phillies, losing the first game, 5 - 6, but taking the nightcap, 5 - 2. 3rd baseman Rafael Devers, has finally found his hitting shoes, whle rookie Bobby Dalbec, has had his on since his call up on August 30, coincedentally my birthday. A true concedence? I dunno, but I hope he isn't a flash in the pan. I like to think that his arrival was my second-best birthday present. Tonight's game against the Phillies @ 6:40 p.m., will have LHP Mike Kickham, 1 - 0, starting for the Sox.
The 18 - 22 Tigers also split their doubleheader, theirs with the 18 - 22 Brewer, losing the first game, 2 - 6, but rebounding in the nightcap for an 8 - 3 win, as RHP Spencer Turnbull improved his record to 4 - 2. Today's game versus the Brewers in Comerica Park, will feature LHP Matthew Boyd, 1 - 5 for the Tigers @ 1:10 p.m. EDT.
We almost achieved our goal of doing nothing yesterday. Mary decided to get up early and go to the cemetery for a solo walkabout with Ginger before the rains returned, while I took care of STWD at home. Sugar still doesn't like wet weather, so even getting her out after breakfast was a chore.
Apparently, Ginger was quite happy walking solo at her favorite place. Mary told me that there was no one around now that "The Season" is done and with the wet and cool conditions.
I spent some time in the kitchen yesterday making some vegan Italian sausages after brunch, following Mary and Ginger's return from walkabout. Mary's plans chenged too, as she made some pizza dough and chopped all of the ingredients for our dinner in the late afternoon.
Her efforts became the best pizza we've ever eaten, whether homemade, delivery, or carryout. In place of store bought sauce or Mary's secret ingredient sauce, she topped her dough with some olive oil, garden fresh tomatoes, some of my vegan Italian sausage and vegan pepperoni, both ground in our food processor, sliced mushrooms, sliced/chopped sweet onions, and green and banana peppers, all topped with nutritional yeast and no cheese. It truly was delicious! Here are some pix of the pizza taken at all steps of the process.

Fully assembled/prepared and ready for the oven. |
Fresh out of the oven. |
In spite of Mary's efforts, we still have a bowl filled with red-ripe tomatoes with more on the vines. |
Today, we have to do someting, but I forget what. I think we have to make a stop at the gas station, but I forget what else. We've done the laundry and we've finished the weekend crossword puzzle, read more of Mary Trump's book, so forgive me if I can't remember what else is onthe agenda. Ciao.
