We have a current temperature of 72º under cloudy skies. A wind speed of 2 mph makes it feel like 72º. Today's high-temperature forecast of 78º will be under mostly sunny skies with a lower relative humidity of 63%.
The sun will rise this morning @ 7:10 a.m. EDT and it will set later this evening @ 8:18 p.m. EDT.
I was fast asleep, but Mary told me that we got some rain last evening. Not enough to do us any good, but that's GH for you. Tonight there is a 70% chance for showers, but as usual, I'm not counting on that.
The 20 - 14 Cubs were off until tonight's game against the 15 - 19 Pirates @ 7:05 p.m. EDT when LHP Jon Lester, 2 - 1, takes the mound.
The Cubs made several moves before the trade deadline yesterday. They acquired another left-handed hitter, OF Cameron Maybin from the Tigers. They also acquired LHP relief pitcher Josh Osich from the Red Sox and LHP relief pitcher, Andrew Chafin from the D'Backs to shore up their bullpen.
The Cubs also placed RHP Tyler Chatwood back on the IL due to elbow inflammation. He may or may not return this season.
The 16 - 16 Tigers travel to Milwaukee for a game tonight versus the 15 - 18 Brewers, when 0 - 0 RHP Micheal Fulmer takes the bump.
My beloved, 12 - 23 Red Sox were defeated last night, 3 - 6, by the visiting 20 - 14 Atlanta Braves. The Sox traded LHP, reliever Josh Osich and OF Kevin Pillar in moves designed to add to next season's team.
The Sox' next game is @ 7:30 p.m. tonight when RHP Ryan Weber, 0 - 2 goes for the beloved.
Elsewhere, I broke in my new apron yesterday when I made some vegan Italian hamburgers. As is generally, but not always the case, they turned out fine and two of them will hit the grill later today.
The burgers are a derivative of my vegan Italian meatball recipe. |
We watched two episodes of The Man In The High Castle yesterday before dinner, along with an episode of Dharma and Greg during dinner. In between, Mary took Ginger for a walk at the cemetery. STWD would have liked to go too, but while her mind is willing, the high humidity of yesterday would have been too much for her advanced years.
Today is our 47th wedding anniversary. It was 47 years ago that Mary took a flyer on a guy with good prospects, to paraphrase from the movie Notting Hill.
Our wedding took place on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Mary's parish church before a small contingent of family and friends. We had a local band perform two songs at our wedding, Make it With You, by Bread, and Cherish by The Association. Unlike what the late Dennis Hopper said of the 1960s, I remember the 1970s very vividly.
Today, I'll be manning the grill while Mary will be doing the hard work, as she prepares the various veggies for my grilling. We'll also toast to our memories and the many more years to come. Ciao.
