Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation and around the world. It is just before 4:00 a.m. in "The City."
We have a current temperature of 60º under mostly-cloudy skies. A wind-speed of 8 mph makes it feel like 59º. Today's high-temperature forecast caslls for a high of 70º. The NWS is forecasting showers/T-storms throughout the day today, but the radar shows all of the action pasing to the north. We shall see.
I still don't have a need to
water, as the growing season in the vast gardens is drawing to a close. I am now in the "Shut it down" phase of the season. Sigh.
The
26 - 20 Cubs fell to the 20 - 22 Brewers last night in Milwaukee by a final score of 0 - 1. Left-hander and starting pitcher, Jon Lester, looked sharp through six innings, recording 8 Ks, but the Cubs' once again had slumber in the lumber and couldn't muster even one lone run in support of Lester. Cubs' manager, David Ross, called in SS
Javier Baez before the game after Baez went 0 - 5 on a rain soaked night @ Wrigley Thursday and told him he was getting a day of rest last night.
The
Cubs play the Brewers again tonight @ 7:10 p.m. EDT when RHP Kyle Hendricks, 5 - 4, takes the mound in Miller Park.
My
beloved 16 - 30 Red Sox played terribly in last night's
game against the 29 - 16 Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa Bay, losing 1 - 11. Rookie 1st baseman Bobby Dalbec got an RBI in the ninth when he drove in Jackie Bradley Jr. for the Sox' only run. The Sox and the Rays battle again tonight @ 6:40 p.m. when RHP Nathan Eovaldi, 2- 2, fresh off the IR list, gets a short start for the Sox.
The 20 - 24 Tigers and rookie RHP Casey Mize showed great stuff, but the Tigers fell apart after Mize departed and the 3 - 4 loss went to reliever José Luis Cisneros, 2 - 3. The Tigers play against that other 28 - 16 team from Chicago tonight in Chicago @ 8:10 p.m. when RHP Michael Fulmer, 0 - 1, tries to get even with the league.
I mentioned the other day that the photo I took of a cargo ship visiting our fair city was unknown at the time of my photo. It turns out that the picture I took was the Pere Marquette Shipping’s articulated tug/barge Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41, that came in Wednesday with a load of aggregate lime for the Verplank dock in Ferrysburg.
We took the fur-children for a walkabout to the cemetery late yesterday. We didn't take any pix, but we saw several deer of varying ages grazing among the markers and as Mary and Ginger extended their walk, they saw more wild turkeys too.
I spent some time in the kitchen making vegan burgers while wearing my
new apron. Two of those burgers became part of our dinner along with the
herbed potatoes that Mary made. She peeled them just enough and then cut
them into thick slices that she coated with smoked paprika and garlic before baking them.
We made the decision that the TV show, Robin Hood, was not for us, so we tried another BBC series, The Paradise as a replacement. We knew from the start that we would like it. Best of all, there are 16 episodes for us to watch.
Mary told me that a train passed by heading south last night around 11:15 p.m., moving fast and heavily laden. I can only assume that the late Friday night run was due to the Labor Day holiday.
Oddly, at about 4:45 a.m. this morning, as I was sitting and practicing on my baritone ukulele, I heard the sound of a train approaching from the south, heading north. I espied MMRR locomotives 2019 and 2025 towing four CHCs, one DBTC, and one DWTC, all empty and also moving rapidly. Go figure.
Today is a day for indoor chores, readiing, and perhaps more TV viewing. I plan to get in more music time shortly. I am still working on my harmonica lessons, and I have a long way to go, but I am enjoying the lessons. Ciao.
