Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation and
across the world. It is just after 4:00 a.m. in "The City."
We have a current temperature of 65º under clear skies. With
a wind-speed
of 16 mph, it feels like 65º.
In spite of the dire pforecast from the NWS, we had only a small amount of rain around 4:00 p.m. EDT yesterday. I watered.
We have two conflicting Barometric Pressure readings. The NWS is reporting 29.92" and rising, while my own DTWS is showing 29.33" and falling. Today's high will be a very comfortable 73º with a low RHI of 48%.
The sun will rise today @ 7:13 a.m. and set later @ 8:13 p.m.
There is a Beach Hazard Statement in effect for Ottawa,
Allegan, and Muskegon counties until 11:00 p.m. EDT tonight.
High wave action, strong currents, and dangerous swimming conditions can
be expected. Piers may be heavily swamped by waves. Strong currents can pull swimmers into deeper
water and high waves can sweep people off piers.
There is also a Small Craft Advisory in effect for that same time period from South Haven to Manistee. Northwest winds of 30 knots will turn westerly by mid-morning today, with waves of 6' to 9' feet,. However, those should subside by this afternoon to 3' to 6 ' and then 2' to 4' by later tonight. Conditions will be hazardous to small craft. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.
Yesterday was once again pedestrian here at the PE. We watched more TV, I worked the weekend crossword puzzle, we read more of Mary Trump's book, and we opened some deliveries. I did manage to take some pictures around the manse of the flora and fauna.
In fact, this aquirrel was sitting on the railing of our deck just before it was time to let the fur-children out for their evening, post-dinner business.
I think that he or she was there to taunt the fur-children. |
Of course, since I was out with the fur-children, I used my camera to take some shots of our vast gardens and their bounty too.
Tucked into the interior of the vines, was this tomato ready for harvest. |
Not quite ready for harvest. |
One ready for harvest, but its twin was not.. |
So sweet! |
Baseball news yesterday was not good.
The 22 - 15 Cubs lost to the 11 - 24 Pirates yesterday afternoon in Pittsburgh, 2 - 6. CF and lead-off hitter Ian Happ, took a fluke foul ball to the eye. Although X-rays were negative, he is day to day with swelling and vision issues. His departure from the game set the tone for the loss.
Tonight's game @ Wrigley Field features the stylings of RHP Yu Darvish, 6 - 1, versus the visiting 14 - 14 St. Louis Cardinals @ 8:15 p.m. EDT.
My beloved 12 - 26 Red Sox and starting LHP Martín Pérez, had a no-hitter going through the 7th, but he exited the game after two outs, with the Red Sox holding a slim 2 - 1 lead over the Blue Jays. However, the 20 - 16 Blue Jays tied it up and went on to defeat the Red Sox 2- 6 in 10 innings.
Today, the Sox and the Blue Jays play two, with RHP Zack Godley, 0 - 3 starting the first game @ 4:10 p.m. EDT and RHP Chris Mazza, 0 - 1 starting the following game, a make-up from August 27th.
The 17 - 17 Tigers had the day off yesterday. They play today @ 2:10 p.m. in MN vertsus the 22 - 16 Twins as RHP Matthew Boyd, 1 - 4, gets the start for the Tigers.
Otherwise, not much is on tap for today. I have to finish the cleanup in the man-cave. I vacuumed out 10 or 12 gallons of water from the area around the HVAC unit, before letting the dehumidfier loose to finish the job with its partner, a small fan.
Mary has plans to head to the Fast Lane™ for a grocery pickup later today and that's about it. Ciao.
