Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 1:30 a.m. in "The City."

Yesterday afternoon, Mary and I went  to our History Book Club meeting. We had a rousing discussion across numerous topics and then adjourned for two months in order to allow some time for resting our eyes. to rest.

Shortly after our return from that activity, Mary and I went to the Loutit Library to see two Irish bands, Uneven Ground followed by One for the Foxes. The music was great from both bands and I took many pictures using my telephoto lens. I'll include some here in random order. Some have captions, while some are without. Don't forget, if you click on any picture, it will open in a larger size.

Larry Halverson of Uneven Ground on the tin whistle.

Courtney Hutson leading the crowd in rhythmic clapping.

Dave Closz singing a song and playing guitar.

Tim Staudacher on guitar as Courtney sang a plaintive tune.
 Next, One for the Foxes.

The entire One for the Foxes trio, left to right, Joanna Hyde, Tadhg O Meachair, and Dave Curley.
Dave Curley singing an Irish tune called The City of Chicago.

A different angle.
Otherwise the day was rather uneventful. I watered the newly seeded lawns and the vast gardens of the PE. I also made a different version of vegan meatballs. I'm not sure if they are an improvement and Mary doesn't think so. Mary made a few phone calls and took the fur-children for a walk. Her walk with STWD was a second one, as Sugar and I had already been to The Bookman earlier in the morning. I did walk over 7,000 steps yesterday, the equivalent of 3 1/2 miles! Not bad for my old yak.

Ginger and I once again did some trainspotting yesterday. At 8:25 a.m., we saw and heard locomotives #2019 and # 2025 heading south on the RSTL towing five CHCs, 15 DBTCs, and three GTCs.

Later in the early afternoon, we saw those same locomotives heading north, towing 15 CHCs, one DBTC, and four DWTCs.

In sports news, the 34 - 24, 2nd in the NL Central, one game in back of the losing 37 - 25 Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, defeated the 32 - 27, 3rd in the NL East Phillies 7 - 5, on the strength of Jason Heyward's walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth. How's that for a sentence that could have been split into several? At the time the Cubs were trailing, 3 - 5. The Cubs and the Phillies meet again today @ 2:20 p.m. EDT.

My beloved, 43 - 19, 1st in the AL East by one game over the 2nd place, 40 - 18 Yankees, defeated the rebuilding 29 - 34, 2nd in the AL Central Tigers, 7 - 1. The Tigers scored first, but it was all downhill after that. The Sox seem to have righted the ship, but again, they were playing the rebuilding Tigers. Those two teams play again tonight @ 7:10 p.m.

The 30 - 28, 3rd in the MWL East Caps, crushed the 15 - 38, last in the MWL East, Great Lakes Loons, 7 - 1. The Caps and the Loons play again tonight @ 7:05 p.m.

We have a current temperature of 58° under partly cloudy skies. In fact, when I was walking over to the library last night, I felt a few drops fall on my face. Today, there is a chance for a stray shower or two. The sun will rise @ 6:05 a.m. and set later @ 9:22 p.m. Friday night into Saturday morning, there is a 40% chance of showers and a high temperature in the upper 70s. According to the NWS, temperatures will be in the lower 80s on both Saturday and Sunday.

I was noting that the month of May was the warmest May in 124 years, with no state being colder than the average temperature. Eight states broke high-temperature records, while two states had their wettest may's ever. Ciao.
