Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. Not surprisingly, it is just past 4:00 a.m. in "The City." A current low temperature of 58° is as low as we will get this morning. We'll be springing back to a high of 76° after the sun rises at 6:13 a.m., just a bit more than two hours from now. As long as I'm on the subject, the sun will set later today at 9:10 p.m. In between, we should have another nice day, much like the one that Saturday became. The rains are not in the forecast until later this evening.

Which also reminds me, that the 99th running of the "Greatest Spectacle in Motor Car Racing" happens later today. I know I've mentioned that a few times before, but it makes for a great segue into the sports report.

The boys in blue had a solid game in AZ, triumphing over the D'Backs 9 - 6 on the strength of  an Anthony Rizzo three run home run. Rizzo is having a monster season, as befits a player who is maturing and growing into the All Star that he was named last year. The Tigers fell to the Astros, 2 - 3. Pitching was once again the culprit. The relatively rare triple play turned in by the Astros didn't help the Tigers any, but the Tigers shot themselves in the foot, metaphorically speaking. My beloved Red Sox comfortably defeated the Angels 8 - 3. So tantalizing, but so inconsistent. The Caps were crushed by the Dayton Dragons, 1 - 14. I suspect that some of these players better start thinking about a future that doesn't include professional baseball.  In hockey, the Blackhawks once again took overtime to get a win, 5 - 4 over the Anaheim Ducks. Their series is now knotted at 2 -2.

Yesterday was as fine a day as we ever get in GH. Aside from the previously mentioned weather, I got to ride my bike in the morning and go to the bakery for some bread, while Mary walked with STWD. Shortly thereafter, Mary and I walked over to the Farmer's Market. Naturally, on a holiday weekend, it was crowded. Green things, red things, orange looking things, all came into the bag we carried to the market. Once we got them home, Mary crafted some of them into a nice salad. She also tried sauteing the tops of the radishes with some garlic and olive oil. That was an excellent idea as it turned out.

Later in the day, we journeyed to the Post and talked to a few people, shook hands with our representative to Congress, Bill Huizenga, who was acting as one of the judges, and watched the awarding of the prizes for the best sides and ribs. We can't vouch for the rib selections, but the judges seemed to agree with the people on them for the most part. As evidence of our attendance, I offer the following.

A good sized crowd.
We finished up the evening at our favorite watering hole and then headed home for a good night's sleep. That's where I was until just before the 4;00 a.m. hour. Ciao.
