Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation and across the world. It is just past 5:00 a.m. in "The City."

I should be able to keep this one short, as I have no pix.

We have a current temperature of 36°, which matches our overnight. That 36° feels like 36° with only a one mph wind out of the south under clear-skies. Today's high after the sun rises @ 6:23 a.m., will be 57°, but I'm betting it will be closer to 60° under sunny-skies. Tonight's low will be 42°, so it is not yet time to place our vegetable plants in the garden. Perhaps by Saturday or Sunday.

We took STWD for her appointment at the veterinarians yesterday. Dr. Heydenburg checked her ears and Sugar does not have an infection, so she is just getting hard of hearing in her dotage. We did get some medication to help with cleaning her ears, so I have to add that to my daily to do list.

We returned home and gave both of our fur-children a bath. Mary washed Ginger in the utility sink, while I washed STWD in the tub. Sugar did not much like it and so she jumped out of the tub as though she were still a puppy. It was a wrestling match that I ultimately won when I placed her back in the tub. Lots of time to dry while they each had a dental chew and then it was time for their dinner.

We finished up the last season of Primeval and it was a good ending to an enjoyable series.

In baseball news, the 12 - 24 Tigers and RHP Casey Mize, 2 - 3, defeated the 16 - 19 Royals, 4 - 2. Miguel "Miggy" Cabrera became the Venezuelan born MLB player with the most hits, as he got a single for his 2,878th hit and the start @ 1st base. He moved to 43rd on the all-time MLB hit list, edging out fellow Venezuelan, retired SS Omar Vizquel. The Tigers close out their series against the Royals today @ 1:10 p.m. when RHP Spencer Turnbull, 1 - 2 takes the mound. The Tigers welcome the Cubs to Comerica Park for a game Friday night @ 7:10 p.m., when RHP Jake Arrieta, 3 - 3 goes for the Cubs versus a Tigers' pitcher to be named later.

That brings us to the disappointing 17 - 19 Cubs, who once again had slumber in the lumber, leaving 14 men on base as they lost to the 20 - 14 Indians, 1 - 2 in 10 innings. This is a perfect place to insert a version of That Old Gang of Mine as performed by the group The Crewcuts in 1959.

With several Cubs players nearing free agency coupled with the fact that that the team that won their only World Series™ in over 100 years in 2016 is not going to win again this year, it is unlikely that almost anyone is untouchable when the trade deadline approaches mid-season. We shall see, but you read it here first.

My beloved 22 - 16 Red Sox also had slumber in the lumber, as they fell to the 23 - 15 As last night, 1 - 4. The Sox could get nothing going at the plate, and LHP Eduardo Rodriguez suffered his first 2021 loss to go to 5 - 1. If there was one bright spot in the game, it was the throw from right-center field by Hunter Renfroe to 3rd baseman, Rafael Devers, to gun down As 3rd baseman Matt Chapman as he attempted to take third on a ball that caromed off the centerfield wall to Renfroe who threw a 92 mph one-hop bullet to nail Chapman easily. You take away anything that is good on a night like last night. The Sox take on the As again tonight @ 7:10 p.m. when RHP Garrett Richards, 2 - 2 hurls for the beloved.

The 3 - 4 Caps defeated the 2 - 6 Great Lakes Loons last night to notch their 1st home win since 2019, 9 - 8. The Caps and the Loons play again tonight@ 6:35 p.m.

Today should be a good day to get in some light yardwork. Not too much, just enough to get some weeds pulled and that's about it. I finished my latest novel, Serpentine, and it got tedious by the end. I can't recommend this book. I may start another today after I work a crossword puzzle following yesterday's two assisted completions. I never got to any music yesterday, so maybe today. Retirement is so busy. Ciao.
