Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just passing 4:30 a.m. in "The City." I hadn't planned to get up this morning, bout like I often say, the best laid plans etc. Earlier this a.m., I spent a part of my life that I'll never get back deleting all of the emails that were clogging my inbox. It seems lately that every few days, Yahoo sees fit to to put them in there due to some glitch in their system.
I realized that I am not getting any younger. There's a newsflash for you. Things that I used to do without a second thought now give me yak pains for several days. Things that I used to enjoy doing I no longer can and in many cases, I no longer care to. I only miss the things that I used to like doing, but which are now too taxing
Clint Eastwood said it best in his iconic role as Dirty Harry Callahan in Magnum Force, when he opined to a crooked D.A. played by Hal Holbrook, "Man's got to know his limitations", right after the bomb that Harry had thrown into the back of Harry's unmarked car exploded with the D.A. driving.
So in spite of the desires, where the mind may be willing, the flesh is often too weak. That doesn't mean that I won't still do things, I just have to remind myself that I need to do like Marshall used to do, limit myself to one thing a day, not one thing an hour. I am fairly certain that Mary would agree.
But I digress. Yesterday was a good day for trainspotting. The regular cast of locomotives, EMD GP 38 #s 2019 and 2057, sporting the latest Mid-Michigan livery, rolled by. Southbound at 10:34 a.m. and northbound at 3:48 p.m. Southbound, the train seemed fairly heavily laden as it towed seven CHCs, one box car, one gray tank car, seven DBTCs, four white tank cars, and 10 hopper cars, uncovered, for a total of 27 cars.
Northbound, the locomotives reversed their pulling order, as once again they pulled a heavily laden train with 13 CHCs, a lone DBTC, four box cars, and one gray tank car. Somewhere along the way, they lost the uncovered hopper cars. Just as well, those cars were old and rusty.
In weather news, today is expected to be partly cloudy with a high of 76°, accordion to the NWS. No rain is in the forecast after the sun rises at 6:09 a.m. and before it sets at 9:28 p.m. Yes my loyal readers, the days are once again getting shorter. By way of information, did you feel the Earth move under your feet Tuesday? Thanks to Carole King from her album Tapestry, for that lyrical interlude. An aftershock of 3.3 magnitude occurred on Tuesday at at 11:42 a.m. USGS (United States Geological Service), called it an aftershock from the quake we had in May.
In sports, the boys in blue continued their mastery over the Mets with a 2 - 0 road win. The Tigers fell hard to the Pirates, once again, 3 - 9. Speaking of falling hard, my beloved Red Sox fell to the Blue Jays, 2 - 11. The Caps defeated the Captains of Lake County, OH, 4 - 3.
Today, I hope to do more of less. I keep hoping, but the lawns of the PE beckoned yesterday, as did other household chores. There are more, but they can wait for the girls, the trains, reading, and walking with the intrepid STWD. Ciao.
