Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 1:00 a.m. in "The City." The current temperature of 66° is under partly cloudy skies. Today's high is forecast to be 86° under similar skies. The chance of precipitation is a mere 10%. so you know what that means don't you? The sun will rise @ 6:44 a.m. and set @ 8:55 p.m. as the days grow continually shorter.
I did get outside yesterday for the morning safari with STWD, and then later for an additional walk to the offices of the Grand Haven Tribune with Mary and the intrepid one to pick up the newspaper. Even though the weather was pleasant, Sugar is getting older, like everyone of a certain age, so it was a challenge for her. Mary and I continued our walking after Sugar's dinner by walking to JWs for dinner.
Speaking of being a certain age, my brother's wife, Nancy, reported on Facebook, that the knee-replacement surgery for my brother, Randy, went well and he is already up and walking. So far all is going well, and that's a good thing to report. Now for the hard part, the days and weeks of P/T.
The baseball news from yesterday is only half of a report, as the Cubs were off and my beloved Red Sox were also off. The Cubs host the Dodgers tonight in the "Beautiful Confines", while the Sox host the Yankees tonight @ 7:10 p.m. Neither team moved in the standings, with the Cubs still enjoying the view from the atop of the N. L. Central with an 11 game lead over the Cardinals, while the Sox are still in 3rd place, 3.0 games behind the Orioles. But, the Red Sox still lead that other team from Chicago by eight full games, so there is solace in that.
The Tigers were in Seattle to face the Mariners, and they lost, 0 - 3 to fall to 61 - 51 in the A. L. Central, still good for 2nd place. That finds them 2.5 games behind the Indians who were off yesterday. The Tigers face the Mariners again tonight @ 10:10 p.m.
The Caps fell to the Bowling Green Hot Rods 2 - 3, in a battle for the souls of baseball fans in West MI. With the loss by the Tigers, there are a lot of long faces around here. The Caps are now once again down to 4th place n the Midwest League, with a record of 21 - 21, 7.5 games behind the Hot Rods. Those two teams play again tonight @7:35 p.m.
Tonight the Tuesdays in the Park™ concert series sponsored by our local radio station WGHN, continues with local group Uneven Ground opening @ 6:30 pm., for another Irish band from Ireland, Goitse, who take the stage @ 7:00 p.m. You know that Mary and I will be there.
Here is a sample of Goitse's music from YouTube™ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNP8CYnN43w. As you can see and hear, they are young and energetic. I'll have more to report in tomorrow's blog.
I did travel solo to the big-box grocery and most everything store yesterday morning, where the post-Coast Guard Festival crowds had descended. Mary stayed behind to work on the index. I just made it out alive.
I only spotted the southbound run of the train @ 10:56 a.m. Locomotive 2057 was soloing with only seven CHCs in tow. The later northbound run proved elusive.
Today I'll be walking with the intrepid one once again, and then settling in for another edition of the Grand Haven Tribune and the associated crossword puzzles. I never got to read yesterday's edition, so I'll catch up on that today.
Mary has to revise her approach to the current index, so I'll have no problem staying ahead of her with my highlighting chores. I did make it to the man-cave yesterday for some cleanup chores that will allow me to work down there much easier. I have more things to do down there, but I'll get to those in the next few days.
Mary always reminds me that I am retired and so I can do things, or not, on any schedule I choose That's with the exception of chores that are regularly scheduled. I try to remind myself, but once I get started, I find it difficult to stop. I feel like I am slacking when I don't keep busy. One thing about home-ownership is that there is always some maintenance type thing that needs doing.
I mentioned in yesterday's blog that the 2016 Coast Guard Festival is now in the history books, so Mary suggested that I offer the following song from Jimmy Buffett as a final farewell gesture, so here goes. Ciao.
