Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 4:00 a.m. in "The City."
Mary suggested that I start with an abbreviated version of this blog so that I might find room for all of the pictures that I took at the annual Coat Guard Festival™ Cruise-In Car show. I may have to ignore her advice @ my peril so that I can describe everything that happened yesterday. If so, I'll create a special edition of my regular scheduled blog.
A quick report on the weather. We have a current temperature of 65° under clear skies. Todays high is forecast by the NWS to be 82 mostly sunny degrees with a 0% chance of rain. No T-storms are in that forecast until Friday morning @ 60%. Guess who will be watering today?
There is so much to describe in a terrific day in sports, that I need to give a complete description beyond saying that all of my teams were victorious.
The Cubs took 12 innings to defeat the Mariners last night. With a moveable feast of pitchers playing in varying roles, the Cubs defeated the Mariners, 7 - 6 with a bunt off the bat of pitcher Jon Lester pinch-hitting for pitcher Hector Rendon, pushing in the winning run. Earlier, pitcher Travis Wood had replaced pitcher Joe Nathan in the sixth and struck out the side. Wood was moved to left in the 7th to allow pitcher Pedro Strop to take the mound Wood made a catch in left as he crashed into the ivy-covered wall.
Wood returned to the mound to pitch again in the 8th and he combined with Anthony Rizzo to throw out a runner trying to steal. That ended the inning. Wood was one of five players to play left last night. Starting catcher Wilson Contreras moved to left in the 10th after his regular nine inning stint @ catcher. All in all, 22 Cubs' players got into the game last night in the N. L. Central. The Cubs are now @ 63 - 41 and in first place by 7.5 games over the losing Cardinals. The Cubs play again tonight @ 8:05 p.m. CDT when they host the Marlins. The Mariners have returned to Seattle to face my beloved Red Sox tonight @ 10:10 p.m. PDT.
The Tigers routed the Astros 11 - 0 in a game in the A. L. Central, to move to 57 - 48. The Tigers plated six runs, including four on a grand slam, in the bottom of the 1st, en-route to their victory. The Tigers have the day off today before traveling to meet that other team from Chicago Tuesday night @ 7:10 p.m. CDT.
My Beloved Red Sox defeated the Angels in Anaheim, 5 - 3. to move to 57 - 46 in the A. L. East. The Sox are still in 3rd place, 4.5 games behind the winning Orioles. As noted, the Sox move to Seattle to face the Mariners tonight @ 10;10 p.m. PDT. I'm betting that the Mariners will be looking to win tonight following their late-night return flight to Seattle.
The Caps won 3 - 1 over the Lake County, OH Captains. The Caps have once again moved up to 4th place in the Midwest League East with a record of 16 - 17. The Caps are home tonight to face the Captains @ 7:00 p.m. EDT.
Adam and Steph departed yesterday morning after Mary, Steph and I returned from the inaugural 7th St, flea market. We had a great visit. I walked 10,500 steps yesterday, so that's why I'll be riding my bike in lieu of walking down to the channel when the Coat Guard cutters arrive today @ 1:00 p.m. I may wait to take a tour later in the week. I may take a video or some pictures of their arrival. Steph was supposed to give me video lessons yesterday, but she ran out of time. So I am on a very steep learning curve.
Otherwise, I am nearly finished with my highlighting, but Mary has to work hard today to get more of the index completed. I'll finish my highlighting this morning right after I am done blogging.
Later this morning, I'll take the morning safari with STWD and then I can do some indoor chores that need doing.
The sun will rise today @ 6:35 a.m. and set @ 9:05 p.m.
See my special blog above for the pictures of the car show. Ciao.
