Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is literally just past 3:00 a.m. in "The City."
Yesterday was a slow day, so I am going to try to keep this short. Note that that is my hope as I begin.
The weather yesterday was hot and humid. We have a current temperature of anywhere between 65°, (NWS), and 72°, (DTWS). There is no rain in the forecast from the NWS, while the DTWS has used its sensor to detect conditions that make a rain event possible.
Later today and for tonight's fireworks, the temperature should drop to a more comfortable mid-70° range. As of now, Mary and I plan to be indoors watching those fireworks on WGHNs "Channel Cam." WGHN is our local radio station. We may also skip the annual parade earlier in the day and avoid the crowds. We may move to the front porch after the fireworks to watch the annual passage of cars and people leaving GH. All of these plans are "Game-Time" decisions.
Speaking of game time, yesterday's baseball results were mostly good, if a winning percentage of .750 is considered good.
The Cubs dispatched the As in Oakland last night by a final score of 7 - 2. The Cubs are still solidly in 1st place with an N. L. Central record of 67 - 41. They lead the Cardinals, who won, by 9.5 games. Jon Lester continued his winning ways, while Jorge Soler, just off the D.L., hit a 3 run dinger in the bottom of the 1st to key a 4 run inning from which Lester and the Cubs never looked back. The Cubs are 15 & 6 during their recent stretch. It is worthy of note that Lester, a former Oakland Athletics pitcher, and SS Addison Russell, who was drafted by the As in the 11th round in 2012, were key in this victory. Russell had 3 hits and played outstanding defense. The Cubs play the As again today at 4:05 p.m.
The Tigers who have won 9 of 10 recently eked out a win over the Mets, 4 - 3. The Tigers are still in 2nd place in the A. L. Central with a record of 60 - 49. They trail the Indians, who lost, by 2.0 games. The Tigers and the Mets play again tonight @ 7:10 p.m.
My beloved Red Sox handily defeated the Dodgers in LA by a final score of 9 - 0. The Sox still find themselves in 3rd place, in the A. L. East, down 2.0 games to the division-leading Orioles, who won. The Sox and the Dodgers play again today @ 4:05 p.m.
Sadly the Caps were the outliers, as they fell to the Dayton Dragons by a final score of 1 - 5. They are still in 3rd place in the Midwest League East with a record of 20 - 19. The Caps travel to Bowling Green, KY to face the Hot Rods this evening @ 5:00 p.m.
Trainspotting yesterday was short. The southbound run utilized only EMD GP 38 locomotive #2057 to move through the RSTL @ 10:50 a.m. In tow were three BCs, one heavily graffitied, one CHC, one GTC, and two DBTCs that were bringing up the rear.
That same locomotive headed north @ 2:10 p.m., towing three BCs, one CHC, and four DBTCs, with three of those once again bringing up the rear.
I watered and used my inherited Weed Whacker™ yesterday when I returned with STWD from the morning safari. I nearly pulled the plug on the pole beans that have been a big disappointment, I stopped myself, but I'm not sure why. No more pole beans next year.
Later in the day following Mary's chat session, in which I participated to learn more about Evernote™, we traveled to our local garden center, The City Farmer for some additional tomato care spray. Following that stop, we were off to the Ace™ hardware store in Spring Lake for some paint and more line for that Weed Whacker™. We also stopped in @ the eyecare store to learn more about whether my current status as a medicare part D participant could gain me some advantage at that provider. I didn't bring the necessary information, so I'll have to call them one day next week to provide that information.
A quick stop at Stans and we were safely home again. Mary served her freshly prepared vegan ham roast for dinner along with a salad, which was a nice bookend to the lunch we had of the remaining roast beest @ lunch.
Later today if everything goes well, I'll be doing some highlighting on the latest book we have for indexing. I will be doing some of that later this early a.m. too. Mary will be working on the index after we return from the morning safari with the intrepid one. No watering and no chores today if I can avoid them.
The sun will rise today @ 6:41 a.m. and set @ 8:59 p.m. as the fireworks begin, Ciao.
