Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 2:00 a.m. in "The City."
Since not much is happening, I should be able to get this post posted to the ether lickety-split. I love being able to use those olde-tyme sayings.
There were no trains to spot yesterday.
The NWS got it right, as the rains and T-storms began about 5:00 a.m. yesterday and continued throughout much of the day. Naturally, getting STWD to go out for the morning safari was difficult. We also had to coerce and cajole her to go out in the early afternoon before the second wave of storms moved across Ottawa County.
Much of those storms went to the south around Holland and Allegan County, but we got steady rain here in GH. I was ecstatic, as I didn't have to water yesterday and I won't be watering today either. I will have to go down to the man-cave to empty the dehumidifier and check on my water-sealing efforts for the floor.
Mary indexed and I read, per my announced plan. Lunch was a reprise of the lunch from Thursday, Mary's soon to be famous SPTL (vegan spicy tomato loaf, lettuce, & tomato) sandwiches, accompanied by her already famous cottage tofu. That lunch was enough to get STWD to leave her hide-e-hole to see what was available for her. However, when the thrill was gone, she scooted back upstairs to her hide-e-hole again. That required Mary to go fetch her for that afternoon pre-storm tether outage I mentioned earlier.
Sports news was mostly good. The Cubs jumped off to an early lead on Cardinals' ace pitcher, Adam Wainwright, who was lifted after two short innings of work, matching his shortest stint this season. That was after the Cubs scored seven runs in the first two innings en route to their 13 - 2 romp. Matt Sczur hit two dingers, Wilson Contreras hit a three-run homer, and Jorge Soler and Javier Baez tallied one each.
That win gave the Cubs their largest lead for this late in the season since September 15, 1929, when they won the NL championship before eventually losing to the Philadelphia Athletics in the World Series. A harbinger of that other Great Depression that began on Black Friday, October 29, 1929? The Cubs are now 32 games over .500, sporting a 14 game lead over the Cardinals, their opponents again today @ 2:20 p.m. in an NL Central matchup. For those who care, that's the Cubs 11th win in a row.
The Tigers lost their 5th straight, this time to the Rangers in Texas following a three-hour rain delay. The final score was 5 - 8 in this AL Central vs. AL West game. That loss still finds the Tigers in 2nd place in the AL Central, now a full 5.0 games behind the Indians who also romped over their opponent, the LA Angels, by a 13 - 3 final score. The Tigers and the Rangers play again tonight @ 8:05 p.m. Sadly, Julio Iglesias was sent to the 15-day DL, after feeling his hamstring fail before the game. While not haveing great year offensively, his defense will be missed.
My beloved Red Sox handily defeated the D'Backs, 9 - 4, to remain in 3rd place with a record of 62 - 52, They are 2.0 games behind the Orioles who moved back into 1st place, albeit statistically tied with the Blue Jays. The Sox and the D'Backs play again tonight @ 7:10 p.m.
The Caps game against the Lansing Lug Nuts was suspended after 10 innings last night due to rain, with the score tied 3 - 3. The Caps and the Lug Nuts resume that suspended game tonight @ 6:00 p.m. before the regularly scheduled game @ 7:00 p.m. Sadly, the Caps are still languishing in 4th place in the MW League East with a record of 21 - 23.
Today, I'll take the morning safari with the intrepid one if the cloudy skies remain just cloudy. However, the NWS is forecasting more precipitation to begin sometime this early a.m. which may continue into the hours after sunrise, which will occur @ 6:48 a.m.
I'll continue reading and resting after I check the man-cave, while Mary indexes. That index is due on Monday. I have no desire to do anything else that doesn't involve some playtime with the girls, which I did yesterday, as I played with Leilani, my ukulele.
The sun will finally set @ 8:49 p.m. Ciao.
