Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation and across the world. It is just past 3:00 a.m. in "the City."

I am thankful that the recent rains that have hit here in GH, have not produced the same result as the rains that caused a sinkhole in VA. Here is a video, courtesy of Weather.com, that shows what can happen when a sinkhole opens under a car.

A current temperature of 72° will lead to a 30% possibility of showers later this morning as we rise towards today's humid high of 81° under partly-cloudy skies. The NWS has forecast that the relative humidity will reach 72% and make it feel warmer when outdoors. The sun will rise @ 6:12 a.m. and set tonight @ 9:27 p.m.

A slight correction in my reporting yesterday. I had the 46 - 42, at that time tied for 1st place with the Brewers in the NL Central Cubs playing yesterday, when they won't hit the field against that other team from Chicago until tonight @ 7:15 p.m. EDT. Oops. That off-day led to the Cubs being one-half game behind the victorious Brewers.

At any rate, that other team is playing pretty good baseball right now. They too are in a rebuilding program, much like the Tigers, speaking of which, they extended VP of Baseball Operations and General Manager Al Avila's contract based on results. Say what? I guess you had to be there, but Tigers' owner Chris Ilitch believes that Avila is on the right track, thus the extension.

In that vein, the 28 - 55, 4th place in the AL Central Tigers, fell to my beloved, 47 - 41, 3rd place Red Sox last night, 6 - 9, following a nearly two-hour rain delay. The Tigers feel that they are making progress, with the exception of pitching at the Major League™ level. Hopefully, the performance last night by spot-starter Ryan Carpenter is not indicative of the future. The Tigers and the Red Sox play again tonight @ 7:15 p.m., when the Sox tap Rick Porcello to face the Tigers, Jordan Zimmerman.

The 7 - 8, 6th place in the MWL East West Michigan WhiteCaps, fell to the 8 - 7, 3rd place South Bend Cubs last night, 1 - 5. They will try again this afternoon @ 3:00 P.M.

I watched both train runs yesterday. MMRR EMD GP 38-2 locomotive #2019 was at the head of both runs, southbound and northbound. At 8:00 a.m., I was sitting at my desk when I saw that locomotive heading south, towing four CHCs and one DWTC. They were fully loaded.

At 11:50 a.m., I was outside and watched as that same locomotive passed by heading north, towing 13 CHCs, one DBTC, and two DWTCs, all empty.

Not much else was happening yesterday. We liked it that way. We have a tendency to lose track of what day of the week we are enjoying. Ah, the perils of being retired.

Today, rain permitting, Mary plans to walk to the farmer's market. I walked too much the other day and so I'll skip that opportunity. We collectively finished the crossword puzzle from yesterday's Grand Haven Tribune, which is the one from the l.A Times. Today, I will continue to read my latest library book and also try my hand at more art. Ciao.
