Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, Ir is just past 3:30 a.m. in "The City."
It was actually a great day in baseball yesterday, even though the Tigers lost by one run. Michael Fulmer hurled a near perfect game with all of his pitches working as he notched nine "K"s before being relieved in his nearly perfect game effort. His replacement, Alex Wilson, gave up the winning run to the 16 - 10 Pirates in the top of the ninth, after which the 10 - 12 Tigers failed to plate any of the runners that had loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth. Oh well, the Tigers move on to face the 6 - 19 Orioles @ 7:05 p.m. EDT.
The 12 - 10 Cubs also got a great pitching effort from Kyle Hendricks as he tossed a gem against the 16 - 10 Brewers to win the game 1 - 0. While he received little run support, the only rune he needed came on a late home-run off the bat of the other Kyle, Kyle Schwarber, As I noted in my description of the Tigers' game, the only way to win a one-run game is to pitch a near perfect game and give up no runs when your team isn't scoring. The Cubs welcome the Brewers to the Friendly Confines again today @ 2:20 p.m. EDT.
My beloved 19 - 5 Red Sox, still the best record in MLB™, beat the 14 - 10 Bluejays yesterday, 5 - 4. The three-run home-run off the bat of former Tiger J.D. Martinez provided the winning margin. In addition, a great catch by Martinez kept the Bluejays at bay. The Tigers move on to Baltimore to face the 6 - 19 Orioles tonight @ 7:05 p.m. EDT.
The 12 - 6, 2nd place in the MWL East Caps, had a good game yesterday as they defeated the Lake County, OH Captains, 8 - 3. The Caps come home tonight for a game against the 13 - 6, 1st place in the MWL East, Lansing, MI Lugnuts @ 6:00 p.m. EDT, in an attempt to erase their .5 game deficit and move back into 1st place.
No train spotting yesterday, however, I was very productive around the PE. I did the indoor chores, worked in the vast gardens, where I did some weeding along with planting our new dahlia, some petunias, I think, along with some flowers whose name escapes me in yet another mostaccioli moment. Mary can remind me later this morning. Wait, I just remembered, they are Gerber daisies. At any rate, all that effort wore me out and I retired early. I have to remember that I am not as young as I used to be, as if my yak wasn't enough of a reminder.
We have a current temperature of 47° per the NWS, while my own DTWS with its FPMS is reporting 54°. The high today is supposed to reach 52° per that same NWS, which has also forecast a 30% chance for rain in the p.m. hours. We'll see. It is very windy outside the WW right now.
Otherwise, we walked the fur-children to The Bookman, which by the by, is no longer for sale. One of the younger current ownership partners will be taking over the reins from the retiring partners. All good for STWD and her biscuit Jones.
Today, I plan to do nothing other than read, sit, and watch/listen to baseball. Mary will be working on the index. I'll do some highlighting now, but that's about the extent of my contribution for today.
The sun will rise in a few hours @ 6:44 a.m. and set later @ 8:41 p.m. Ciao.
