Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 3:00 a.m. in "The City."

I got up around 2:00 a.m., as I often do, and Ginger was ready to go out. However, Mary had been watching TV downstairs so I arrived as she was trying to persuade Ginger to do something other than stare into the teeth of a wind that at time was gusting into the 40 mph range! In addition, the Winter Weather Warning for West, Michigan for ice and snow accumulation that was issued by the NWS from noon yesterday until noon today has come to pass. While the accumulation isn't much, it is mostly ice and very slippery. Our deck is as slippery as a politician's tongue. STWD lived up to her moniker and predicted that she didn't want to go out when Ginger did. She had to be coaxed/convinced, to say the least.

There was a report of a rollover accident near Coopersville, east of GH, that involved a firetruck and four firefighters responding to a vehicular accident. All the firefighters were transported to the hospital with non-threatening injuries after the firetruck rolled over when it slid on the icy rural roads.

The current temperature is 29° trying for a high of 36°, as we head for the sunrise @ 7:02 a.m. and well before the sun sets @ 8:27 p.m. Unless you are a hospital worker or public safety worker, you should not be on the road in the West, Michigan area this morning. Many church services and other activities have been canceled for this morning.

Speaking of weather cancellations, the Tigers and the Caps were postponed yesterday. In the case of the 4 - 9 Tigers game in Detroit, it was against the 7 - 7 Yankees. Those two teams are planning to play a split doubleheader today beginning @ 1:10 p.m. Yeah, when elephants fly.

The 6 - 2 Caps game against the 6 - 3 Lansing Lug Nuts, was also canceled due to 'Inclement Weather." Those teams are scheduled to play today @ 1:05 p.m. Sure they will, just watch out for flying elephants.

The 7 - 7 Cubs game against the 8 - 6 Braves yesterday was one for the highlight reel. Played in frigid temperatures, with snow and sleet falling, the Cubs were down 10 - 2 at one point. But a raucous 8th inning that included 13 hitters for the Cubs, three hits, five walks, and two hit batters produced a 14 - 10 victory for the Cubbies. Those two teams are scheduled to play again today. This is the only visit for the Braves to Chicago this year, so they had to get the game in yesterday along with today's game set for 2:20 p.m. EDT.

My beloved 12 - 2 Red Sox against the 5 - 10 Orioles game was on cruise-control yesterday as Hanley Ramirez returned from his injury and continued to tear the cover off the ball. Unfortunately, right-fielder, Mookie Betts, was injured in a close play at the plate. He has a foot injury that will sideline him, hopefully for only a  for a couple of games. The Sox and the Orioles are scheduled to play today @ 1:05 p.m. EDT.

Have you heard, there is a massive egg recall that involves an "Abundance of caution", according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration? Nearly three million eggs, yes, I wrote that correctly, three million eggs, have been recalled due to a "Potential for salmonella." Any wonder why we should all be vegan? If you knew how many chickens lived, you would understand part of the motivation for Mary and me to go vegan. Let's just say, salmonella is nothing to fool with.

Speaking of going vegan, Mary and I combined yesterday to try another recipe for non-meat, faux meatballs. The flavor is excellent, in fact we had some for dinner, but the texture isn't as good as our original recipe. Oh well, you have to try new things.

Today, we plan to stay in and out of the weather. This is April 15, and it is spring, but much of the upper part of the United States is experiencing wintry conditions. The front that moved through here is heading east, threatening the baseball games to be played on the east coast, notably that game between the beloved and the Orioles.

I've requested grits for breakfast, but I think Mary has to break out the bag of regular grits today in order to satisfy my request. She does have some older bread that could become French toast instead. A game-time decision. Otherwise, it is time for her to get down to working on the latest indexing project. I am highlighting and commenting ferociously for my part. Ciao.
