Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 3:00 a.m. in "The City."

Our current temperature according to the NWS is 57°. Today's high is forecast to be a springlike 63°, with cloudy skies in the morning and sunny skies in the afternoon. There is also a 20% chance of precipitation. All in all, a good day here in GH

Yesterday was one of those days where the rains tried to fall, but mostly just threatened. I had gone to the barber shop as the rains were trying to fall, and so Mary carried an umbrella over to the barber shop for my walk home. It turned out that I didn't need it. We are still on target to need no watering of the vast lawns and gardens of the PE until tomorrow. Mary did mow the lawns, so that's all good. I have to finish the trimming, but even with my limited dexterity, that shouldn't take too long.

While I was at the barber, I witnessed the southbound run of the trains on the RSTL. Locomotives 2057 and 2019 passed through at 12:04 p.m., towing two BCs, 13 CHCs, four DBTCs. and three DWTCs, with one bringing up the rear. While the train was unloaded, as is usually the case on the southbound passage, I am still concerned about those DBTCs and the possibility of a spill or fire during the northbound passage. Where we live is one channel of the Grand River as it meanders through this part of MI en-route to the "Big Lake."

Just north of here, is a swinging railroad bridge that opens and allows boats to pass from Spring Lake into Lake Michigan via that channel. If any of those DBTCs were to spill their loads due to a derailment on the northbound run as they pass over the river, the results would be a disaster as the oil spilled into the river and then into Lake Michigan. Or, the spill and a possible fire similar to that which occurred in Oregon a few days ago might result, thus despoiling a beautiful area. The track record of cleanup after oil spills in most parts of this country is not all that stellar.

I did not witness the northbound run.

We did get out yesterday to visit about 10 stores in search of Mary's elusive breadbox. We came away unrequited at every stop on our quest. Sigh.

In sports, the Cubs and Jon Lester defeated the Phillies in Philadelphia, 6 - 4. Lester tossed eight strong innings until he departed leading 6 - 0, when he was relieved by manager Joe Maddon. The Cubs shaky relief corps gave up the four Phillies runs in the top of the ninth inning. The Cubs have a record of 40 - 16, continuing their 1st place standing in the N. L. Central, 10 games ahead of the 2nd place Pirates.

The Tigers easily defeated the Blue Jays, 11 - 0. That gives the Tigers a record of 29 - 28 in the A. L. Central, but their win still finds them in 4th place.

My beloved Red Sox had the day off, so the active Orioles took over 1st place in the A. L. East by .5 games. The Sox have an overall record of 32 - 22.

The Caps too had the day off, so they too fell into 2nd place, in their case, in the M. W. L. East with a record of 32 - 22.

Today, Mary has a chat session, We will be taking a walk with STWD in the morning, and I'll be finishing reading my novel and yesterday's and today's editions of the Grand Haven Tribune, in the afternoon. I guess I'll do the remaining trimming on the lawns of the vast estate too.

The sun will rise at 6:05 a.m. and set at 9:22 p.m. Ciao.
