Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 2:30 a.m. in "The City."
I wanted to start with a very pleasurable experience. We walked to the Tri-Cities Historical Museum to participate in that previously mentioned historical book discussion regarding Rise of the Rocket Girls, by Nathalia Holt. The organizer, Cate, a museum employee, was very friendly and welcoming. The discussion was wide ranging and also friendly. Unfortunately, meetings/discussions won't resume until next fall, when David McCullough's The Wright Brothers, is discussed. in an atypical book for McCullough, the book is only 336 pages.
In sports news, the Cubs eked out a 2 - 1 win over the Dodgers. Jon Lester went the distance, recording 10 Ks as he set down the last 15 hitters in a row. The Cubs are still in 1st place in the N.L.Central, with a record of 36 - 15, 7.0 games ahead of the Pirates.
That other team from Chicago also eked out a win over the Mets by the same score. That team travels to Detroit to face the Tigers on Friday. I have another good reason to root for the Tigers, as if I needed one.
Speaking of the Tigers, they handled the Angels in Anaheim, 3 - 0. That gives the Tigers a record of 25 - 27 in the A.L. Central, only good for 4th place.
My beloved Red Sox were upended by the Orioles, 9 - 13. However, the Sox still have a 2.0 game lead over those Orioles in the A.L.East, with a record of 32 - 21.
The Caps moved into a statistical tie with the South Bend Cubs in the M.W.L. East, with a record of 30 - 19.
Now for the weather report. We have a current temperature of 63° per both the NWS and the DTWS. Also per the NWS, today's high is forecast to be 73° under mostly clear skies. We did get some rain yesterday, but Mary will be disappointed to learn that the NWS forecast for the next several days shows only a 20% chance for precipitation. The weather/temperatures should be more seasonable though.
On a tangential note, lunch was Mary's famous faux Swiss cheese and sauerkraut sandwiches accompanied by her also famous cottage tofu. We had dinner at JWs. Mary has committed herself to finishing up some of her craft projects along with some household projects that have been in the works for many weeks. She worked upstairs as I worked on crosswords downstairs in the La-Z-Boy.
Today is the day. We are off to the orthopedist to have my thumb examined, get my sutures removed, get my next set of knee treatments, and get an X-ray on my mending thumb. Here's hoping all goes well, which I expect. Then we'll have lunch at the hospital cafeteria salad bar.
We also plan to go to the big-box nearly everything store for some needed supplies to replenish our larder. Neither of us finds that a pleasant experience, just something to be endured.
That's enough for one day. The sun will rise at 6:07 a.m. and set at 9:19 p.m. Ciao.
