Once again, yesterday was better than the day before. The weather was what we moved to Michigan to enjoy, with temperatures in the 70s and lower relative humidity accompanied by sunny skies. Today promises more of the same, with a high temperature of 77° under sunny skies as the sun rises @ 6:13 a.m. EDT and sets later @ 9:26 p.m. EDT.
As I noted in my last blog, like the old ad for the U.S. Army aptly noted, I actually accomplished more before 9:00 a.m. yesterday than most people do all day. That being said, I went to YouTube™ for the appropriate link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmA3HjyJhRg Enjoy.
Since it was such a beautiful day, after I walked STWD to The Bookman, I decided to go for a bike ride. My bad! I'd forgotten that I should never ride on a weekend and absolutely never ride on a weekend day following a holiday. The traffic was thick and crossing any road was a challenge. Still, I made it over to Harbor Island and took some photos that are some of my best, so far. I'll endeavor to do better in the future as I learn more and become more proficient. I decided that some of the photos were just OK, while others approached the level of what I was seeing. I'll include the best of the "Good Ones" below. Be sure to click on any that catch your fancy.

I've decided to call this one "Back to the Future." A shot of the coal pile adjacent to the BLP Sims II power plant. |
Since I had time, I decided to try one of the recipes from the Field Roast: 101 Artisan Vegan Meat Recipes to Cook, Share, and Savor, cookbook that I received from Adam and Steph for Father's Day. This particular recipe is for a grind, what the writer, Chef Tommy McDonald, calls a basic ingredient for other recipes in the book. Now that I have this part accomplished, I can move on. Worthy of note, is that his introductory description of "meat" does not denote meat derived from animals, but rather the type of meat that includes that which is part of all fruits and vegetables.
Once I was done, Mary memorialized my efforts with our camera. Here are two.
All trussed up in their cheesecloth and string, fresh from the stockpot, but nowhere to go. |

Baseball news yesterday was once again 3/4 good.
My beloved, 61 - 28, 1st place in the AL East Red Sox, routed the last place in the AL Central Royals in Kansas City yesterday, 15 - 4. Mookie Betts went 4/6 and the X Man, Xavier Bogaerts, contributed to that rout, which included a seven run ninth inning after the Royals imploded. The Sox and the Royals play again today @ 2:15 p.m. EDT, when Rick Porcello takes the mound as the Sox go for the Sweep.
The 50 - 36, 2nd place in the NL Central Cubs, snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, with some help from the 39 - 50, last place in the NL Central Reds. The Cubs looked like they were headed for another loss to a lesser team, but they got their mojo working and erased a five-run deficit to take the game, 8 - 7. Kris Bryant is nearly ready for a minor-league rehab assignment, while there is no timetable for the return of Yu Darvish, the $126,000,000 man, from the DL. The Cubs are doing well in spite of his extended stay on that DL.The Cubs and the Reds play again today @ 2:20 p.m. EDT.
The 40 - 51, 3rd in the AL Central Tigers, took one from the 39 - 5, last place in the AL West TX Rangers yesterday, 7 - 2. The Rangers have a similar record, and yet, unlike the 3rd place Tigers, they are in last place in their division. Go figure. The Tigers and the Rangers play again today @ 1:10 p.m. EDT.
The 45 - 42, no longer on a roll, 5th place in the MWL East, West Michigan White Caps, lost one to the 7th place, 36 - 51, Lake County, OH, Captains, 0 - 3. Nuff said, The Caps and the Captains play today @ 1:30 p.m. EDT.
Once Mary was done indexing for the day, we traveled across the bridge to visit the Spring Lake Ace Hardware™ to pick up some 1/2 gallon Mason™ jars for storage and also get some kitchen twine for future versions of that previously mentioned grind. Since we were on the other side of the bridge, we just had to stop @ Stan's before heading home.
Once again, Mary is her own worst critic with regard to her kitchen prowess. She made a terrific vegan faux tuna casserole that I thought tasted great, but which she didn't think was her best effort. I guess that if we all strive to do better each time, that the chance of achieving greater things increases.
Since I am done with highlighting, I can use my time today to do whatever I want. Mary will continue to index and I'll water the newly planted seeds in the vast lawns after I walk with STWD. Ciao.
