We have a current muggy temperature of 73° under cloudy skies. The NWS is forecasting scattered T-storms for this early a.m. on the five-day part of The Weather Channel site, with a 60% chance. However, on the hourly forecast from that same site, the forecast shows those scattered T-storms beginning @ 6:00 a.m. and continuing throughout the day today until 3:00 p.m. Proof positive that I may, or may not, have to water the vast lawns and gardens of the PE. The sun will definitely rise here in GH @ 6:18 a.m. and set more than 15 hours later @ 9:23 p.m. I'll only believe that part of the information from The Weather Channel site, because the earth's rotation, unlike the weather, is predictable.
Baseball news last night and into this early a.m., was mostly not good. My beloved, 66 - 30, 1st place in the AL East Red Sox, tried to give starting and losing pitcher, Rick Porcello, the chance to win their 11th straight. Sadly, Porcello lasted a shade more than two innings, giving up four walks and striking out only one Blue Jay before Sox manager Alex Cora had to give Porcello the hook.
Mookie Betts tried to assist Porcello, as Betts hit triples in both the first and second innings, one nearly going out, that led to a 6 - 3 score. However, the Jays came roaring back with home-runs of their own and moved the score to 8 - 6 and went on from there to win the game over the beloved, 13- 7. The Sox and the Blue Jays play again today @ 1:05 p.m.
The woeful, 40 - 56, 3rd place in the AL Central Tigers, predictably lost to the 63- 34, 1st place in the AL West Astros, 0 - 3. The fact that the Tigers are in 3rd place in their division says more about the division than the Tigers. The Tigers and the Astros play again today @ 4:10 p.m.
The 53 - 38 Cubs, moved into a first-place statistical tie with the 55 - 40 Brewers, around 1:45 a.m. this morning The Cubs eked out a 5 - 4 win over the 40 - 57, last place in the NL West Padres, but alas, the Cubs often can't seem to easily win their games against weaker teams. In this case, it took 10 innings, but the Cubs pulled it out.
The 47 - 45, 6th place in the MWL East White Caps, found a way to lose to the 38 - 52, 7th place in the MWL West Timer Rattlers, 5 - 6. The Caps are home again to play the 45 - 44, 2nd place in the MWL West, Beloit Snappers, tonight @ 7:05 p.m.
In spite of how baseball news was not good yesterday/early this morning, our day yesterday was fantastic. We got up relatively early and and as Mary was perusing her Twitter™ feed, she learned that the Oscar Mayer™ Wiener Mobile would be at the Family Fare™ store n Hudsonville, MI between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. yesterday. I got very excited, as I recalled meeting Little Oscar, who represented the Oscar Mayer™ company, for many years when I was a young lad. I found several videos on YouTube™ that depict the various incarnations of the Wienermobile, so I am including them here for your enjoyment and edification

With Mary's indulgence for my desire, we dropped Ginger off at daycare and set out to see the Wienermobile. I was not disappointed. Mary took multiple photos of me, and the Wienermobile while we were there. I'll include a few here. I had to ask, but yes, they still give out Wiener Whistles, so I received two of those to go with my pictures.
Yes! |
They opened up the Wienermobile so that I and many others could see the inside. |
Ah, if only I could have done more than just look out the windshield. |
There have been numerous incarnations of the Wienermobile since it was introduced in the 1930s. |
My Wiener Whistles sound just right to my young-at-heart ears. |
I also remember, as my brother Raig probably does, going to Arlington Market shopping center to see the Silver Cup Bread™ rocket ship and receiving a small loaf of Silver Cup white bread. There are pictures on the internet of that rocket ship, the Silver Cup bakery, and their products. I'll include a link here.
I wonder if anyone else remembers the Bugs Bunny and Friends Show, with it's original host, Dick Coughlan, that premiered in Chicago in 1959? The show was renamed in 1964 to Ray Rayner and His Friends. I have a hazy memory of our mother taking us to Westgate Shopping Center in Arlington Heights, IL to see Coughlan, Bugs, and their hollow tree.
But enough of a stroll down memory lane. We made additional stops at a soon to be forgotten antiques store, the Embassy Bar and Grill, for some onion straws, took a trip down back roads and MI 231 to Spring Lake for a visit to Weesies Brothers Garden Center for some replacement annuals for the vast gardens, and then a stop at Stan's for adult libations. Finally, it was time to pick up Ginger from daycare.
If all goes will today, we plan to stay in, do some cooking and baking, and relaxing after a walk with the fur-children. Ciao.
