Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation and
across the world. It is just before 9:00 a.m. in "The City."
Yes, you read that right, it is just before 9:00 a.m. I stayed in bed all night until I couldn't anymore. I've never been good at wiling away the hours in bed, too many years of actually having a schedule I guess. At any rate, that's the beauty of being retired, absent any appointments, you set your own schedule and agenda.
Our current temperature is 70° under what I'd call partly-sunny-skies based upon my observation out the WW. That's compared to the forecast from Weather.com™ that indicates we are having partly-cloudy skies this morning and mostly-sunny skies this afternoon with a high temperature of 76°. The sun already rose today @ 6:57 a.m. and
it will set later tonight @ 8:38 p.m.
Baseball news will be easy, The Cubs are still in 2nd place in spite of their win last night. All my other teams lost by varying margins. Today's games. Cubs @ 8:05 p.m. EDT. Red Sox @ 7:10 p.m. Tigers @ 8:10 p.m. WhiteCaps @ 7:05 p.m.
We had our front window replaced yesterday in what turned out to be a significant challenge for the technician. Apparently, a piece of glass that has been in place for decades is tough to remove and replace. But, he did it! By the by, living in Michigan is a lot different than being in Chicago, as City Glass and Mirror will send us a bill as opposed to demanding payment before starting the job.
His baking yak, not mine! |
Mostly we sat around and read the 1619 Project articles in the NY Times. I also finished the crossword puzzle from the Grand Haven Tribune along with reading from our current shared non-fiction selection, Joy Reid's The Man Who Stole America. Plus, I am nearly finished with my own book from the library, Memory Man by David Baldacci.
Later, Mary walked over to the library for a presentation about Graphic Novels. She learned, as did I from her recap, that the term "Graphic" has several connotations that include Romances, Non-fiction, what I would call "Comic Books", and more. Her program started @ 6:00 p.m.
Later, I walked to Central Park for what was the last Concert in the Park sponsored by WGHN radio for 2019, beginning @ 7:00 p.m. Based upon forecasts from the NWS and our own observations around 4:15 p.m., we both carried umbrellas. The short burst of rain also got the fur-children an early dinner, but it was indeed very short and that was all the rain we would see.
However, the folks @ WGHN decided to err on the side of caution and moved the concert, featuring Ruth and Max Blomquist, indoors to to the Loutit Library main hall. That's where I viewed the concert as opposed to an empty stage and park.
Sunny and welcoming, but empty! |
So along the way, I shot numerous pix of the sun and the clouds, both before and after the indoor concert.
A beautiful late-summer evening in GH. |
I liked how this one looked too. |
Partly-cloudy/partly-sunny? You decide. |
Mary's presentation in the library's program room A in the basement of the library, ended around 7:30 p.m. I espied her across the crowded hall at the library, but the pix I took of her were somehow inadvertently "Deleted."
However, I know she arrived upstairs to hear Ruth and Max perform what is one of Mary's favorites, Ruth's own song, Michigan Girl.
I shot a lot of pix during the concert, including some crowd shots, but with my telephoto lens, they were not all-encompassing.
Truth be told, all the pix were mostly shot from the same location, so I'll only include a few of Ruth and Max performing.
Ruth Blomquist, a true Michigan Girl! |
Max from behind as he played the upright bass. |
Max mostly soloing on Crosby, Stills and Nash's Teach Your Children in honor of both the 5oth anniversary of Woodstock and Max's 5oth reunion. |
Mary and I finally reconnected on the library's deck and then we segued to JWs for a late night libation or two.
Today, we have no specific plans except that Mary wants to stay in bed all morning just to pass the time and listen to the Stephanie Miller Show on Sirius XM. I have plans to do some painting on wood today and I'd like to go to Coopersville and Off the Tracks this afternoon. I haven't told Mary yet, but I guess she knows after reading this blog. Ciao.
