The current temperature is 72° under cloudy skies, as we drop to our overnight low of 67°. The weather forecasting service I subscribe to for m daily forecasts had been calling for rain starting around 9:00 p.m. last night and continuing into early this morning. On the other hand, Mary's weather forecasting service had no precipitation in their model.
I'm here to tell you that her service was accurate, while mine totally missed the mark. Nary a drop can be seen on the grounds of the PE. So, I'll be watering today. Sigh! There is precipitation in the forecast for Saturday, albeit with only about a 40% chance for scattered T-storms. The sun rises today @ 6:48 a.m., and sets later @ 8:50 p.m., with a high temperature of 80° in between.
I let the fur-children out last night just before 11:00 p.m. I espied the moon through the trees and attempted to take a fast pic before it was gone. Sadly, although I took many pix, only one was more than a blur. I just didn't have time to adjust the camera for the nighttime conditions.
Not great, but this is what I saw/photographed. |
My beloved 62 - 59, 3rd place in the AL East Red Sox, tried for a comeback against the 72 - 47, 1st place in the AL Central Indians, but the Sox lost 5 - 6. That loss drops the beloved 17.5 games behind the 79 - 41, 1st place Yankees. Barring a miracle, the Sox will be watching the World Series™ from their collective couches this fall.
Sox IF Michael Chavis is now on the 10-day IL due to a nagging shoulder injury incurred when he made a spectacular catch in short-center last week. In addition, struggling pitcher Andrew Cashner, was sent to the bullpen as he has been mostly ineffective since landing with the Sox.
Speaking of struggling starting pitcher, Chris Sale, 6 - 11, will start tonight's game against the Indians @ 7:10 p.m.
The also struggling West Michigan WhiteCaps were pounded by the Lake County Captains last night, 6 - 13. Like their parent team, the 35 - 80, 5th place in the AL Central Tigers, the Caps will be viewing the playoffs from their couches this fall. The Caps are off today before they resume "play" against the Great Lakes Loons Wednesday night @ 7:05 p.m. The Loons are in 2nd place, so...
The 64 - 54, 1st place in the NL Central Cubs also resume play tonight, in their case in Philadelphia, against the 60 - 58, 4th place in the NL East Phillies tonight @ 7:05 p.m. That's when Jose Quintana, 10 - 7, takes the ball. Joe, the owner of Stan's Bar and Grill in Spring Lake, is a Phillies fan and he has safely predicted that the Phillies will also be watching the World Series™ from their couches this fall.
The 35 - 80, Tigers also resume play tonight @ 7:10 p.m., when the Mariners 48 - 71, also in last place in their own division the AL West. when they visit Comerica park. Matthew Boyd, 6 - 8, will try for a win over a team that is only slightly better than the Tigers when Boyd takes the mound.
So, while baseball news was limited yesterday, we had a relaxing day once the hubbub had died down.
I forgot to mention, that one of our errands was a stop at the Sprint™ store to get a repair on our Smart Phone that had fallen earlier in the day and cracked its its screen. Unfortunately, while we do have the insurance, the repair facility is in GR, not nearby. We did try for a repair in Muskegon at a non-Sprint™ repair service, but that would have been $140 versus $19, so... Since the phone can be upgraded in January, we have ordered a protective sheet to try for a short-term fix until then. Here's hoping. Otherwise, a trip to GR is in our future.
Today, I will water the vast gardens, do another crossword puzzle, read more of my new novel, and read more of our shared non-fiction book too. I can't predict what else will happen at thie time. Ciao.
