The current temperature is 66° under partly-cloudy skies. Our high today is forecast to be 80°, also under partly-cloudy skies. The sun will rise @ 6:49 a.m. and set later @ 8:49 p.m.
I am going to start with baseball news and keep it short.
The 1st place in the NL Central Cubs, saw a record-setting 14 K effort by starting pitcher Jose Quintana, 10 - 7, wasted, as they fell to the 61 - 58, 4th place in the NL East Phillies, 2 - 4. Newly reactivated pitcher, Kyle Ryan, took the loss as the Cubs once again experienced "slumber in the lumber." The Cubs and the Phillies go again tonight @ 7:05 p.m. EDT, as Cole Hamels, 6 - 3 goes to the mound.
My beloved 63 - 59, 3rd place in the AL East Red Sox, eked out a win over the 72 - 48, 2nd place in the AL Central Indians, 7 - 6 in 10 innings. Much of the "success" by the Sox can be attributed to 3rd baseman Rafael Devers and his 6 for 6 night at the plate. Brandon Workman, 9 - 1, got the win. The Sox and the Indians will step onto the field again today @ 1:10 p.m. as Chris Johnson, 1 - 1, gets a rare start for the Sox.
The 35 - 81, 5th place in the AL Central Tigers, found still another way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, losing to the 5th place in the AL West Mariners, 6 - 11, with Matthew Boyd, 6 - 9, taking yet another loss. The Tigers will play before a mostly-empty Comerica Park crowd again tonight @ 7:10 p.m. when Edwin Jackson, 2 - 5 goes for the Tigers.
The Caps were off and they play @ home tonight, starting a series against the Great lakes Loons, @ 7:05 p.m. The Caps have nowhere to go but up, as they are on 8th place in the MWL East Division.
We ran a few errands yesterday, with our first stop being City Glass and Mirror to arrange for a service call to repair the cracked window on the front of the manse. The service-person will be here around 1:00 p.m. today. We also made a quick stop at the big-box home center in Norton Shores for some fertilizer. I had watered the vast gardens, but I was out of food for the roses and other flowers after that. Worthy of note, is that the zucchini plants that had been mostly non-productive until very recently, produced their first fruit. I must have missed this one, because it is quite large by zucchini standards. Zucchini bread anyone?
I also took advantage of a sale coupon at the big-box arts and crafts store in Norton Shores too, where I picked up some additional acrylic paints and we both got some arts and crafts books that were "On Sale."
I nearly forgot. Since we were in Norton Shore, we decided to make a visit to a newly opened fabric and quilt store in Muskegon, Abbi Mays, and then proceeded to do one of our not quite lost, but not quite sure of where we were tours of Michigan. We followed a scenic road that took us into Muskegon State Park and along the shores of the "Big Lake." Sadly, we had not brought the camera along for the ride, as we saw some interesting sights along our route. I am charging the battery now, just in case. We will be sure to take our camera everywhere we go from now on.
Finally, we stopped at our favorite watering hole for a quick snack and then home for a nap before I walked to Central Park for the weekly Tuesdays in the Park concert, this one by a band called Natchez Trace. They covered tunes by the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, The Eagles, and many others. The crowd was large and enthusiastic and also included many members of the canine persuasion. I also took some pix of the clouds and other interesting things to be seen in and near Central Park.
WGHN, our local radio station, broadcasts the concerts too. |
