Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation, and across the world. It is just before 3:45 a.m. in "The City."

The sun will rise this morning @ 6:18 a.m. and set later @ 9:22 p.m. Yes, my loyal readers, the days are indeed getting shorter, albeit not cooler.

According to the NWS, the current outdoor temperature is 61° and it feels like 61º with a wind speed of 0 mph.

My DTWS shows 61º on both the deck and the front porch.
  .
The NWS is forecasting today's high to be 82º under partly-cloudy skies. The overnight low tonight will be 70º. High temperatures will be in the mid 80º range for a while.

The official barometric pressure is 29.99" and rising while my DTWS is showing 29.42" and steady.

Yesterday was another one of those days where you can't really put your finger on where the time went, but it passed by and before you knew it, it was time for dinner.

Of course, I did make time for some watering and also made some time to create more of my world-famous vegan Italian meatballs which became part of that aforementioned dinner. Somewhere in there, we collectively finished a crossword and some indoor chores. In the early afternoon, Mary went to that big-box nearly everything store to pick up some groceries for our larder.

Before dinner, we watched another episode of Poldark and would have watched more, but the hour was getting late. Instead, we watched an old episode of The Bob Newhart Show on Hulu™. I guess that the phrase "An old episode" is redundant, as there have not been new episodes of The Bob Newhart Show made in nearly 50 years. Oh well, good sitcoms are always timely.

I started a new novel, The Glass House by Emily St. John Mandel She is also the author of a book we read with our book club a few years ago entitled Station Eleven. Subsequently, we saw her present a talk about that novel at the Grand Haven Community Center. This book pulled me in right away, so that's a good sign.

Today, we have to grind the nails on our fur-children and I have some work to do in the vast gardens. I don't plan to be out all that long. I have so many things I'd like to accomplish, but when you are retired, time has both more and less relevance. I don't know about others, but I have to consult a calendar to determine what day of the week we are on. When I was teaching, I had a lesson planning book and a daily planner to keep me on course. Now, just my own mind. Hmmm.

Oh, I thought it was a good time to add in a link to a song written by the late Billie Holiday in 1939 and first recorded by her in 1941. One source says that Ms. Holiday was having a heated discussion with her mother when the song came to her. Who knows?

At any rate, the song was later recorded by the band Blood, Sweat, and Tears in 1968 on their album,  Blood, Sweat and Tears. In both cases, the song was entitled God Bless the Child. Why this song and why now? No reason, I just felt like it.

Ciao.
