Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 2:30 a.m. in "The City."
I was just sitting here and marveling how it took a move to Michigan by Mary and I make the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears winners. I'd like to believe that our move was the catalyst, but in reality, it was just the maturation of the Cubs from a rich man's hobby or a way to ensure TV rights for the Chicago Tribune to make them a winner.
Sure, the Bears won Super Bowl XX in 1986, with a convincing score of 46 - 10 over the New England Patriots, a team that did not have Tom Brady @ QB. Da Bears have been living on that glory for 34 years! However, they were totally outplayed in Super Bowl XLI in 2007, a game that Da Bears got into by a few lucky bounces. They were dominated by the Indianapolis Colts and their future Hall of Fame QB, Peyton Manning, 17 - 29.
However, yesterday was another chance to redeem the reputation of a team that has all too often played like a team ready for the season to be over. In this case, Da Bears, and their 2nd year QB, Mitch Trubisky, dominated the Detroit Lions and their 10 year veteran QB, Matthew Stafford, 34 - 10. Stafford was sacked by Da Bears defense six times to go with the 10 times he was sacked in the Lions game last week against the Vikings. The Vikings are the Bears next opponent on Sunday night, 11/18/2018. The Bears and the Lions try again on Thanksgiving, a scant four days later, @ 12:30 p.m. EST.
A long way of saying that I skipped yesterday's game in favor of going to the movies to see Patton, a movie that won seven Oscars, including one given to the movie's star, George C. Scott, which he refused. I was reminded that Patton was a great movie that deserved those seven Oscars. I don't think it glorified war as much as it pointed out the folly of war. That's not unlike the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque, about WWI. Just one man's opinion. I got a medium-sized popcorn and a medium cherry Pepsi, and enjoyed the nearly three-hour long movie.
Speaking of WWI, while I was @ Patton, Mary went to the Tri-Cities Historical Museum to hear what she deemed a great presentation/lecture about WWI by professors from Muskegon Community College. She too felt that the lecture also pointed out the folly of war. Just one woman's opinion, an opinion which I share.
We have a current temperature of 41° under cloudy-skies as we drop to the overnight low of 34°. Later today, according to the NWS, we'll rebound to today's high of 37° with a 0% chance for precipitation. The sun will rise@ 7:33 a.m. and set later @ 5:23 p.m. It will be Tuesday, the day I have to go to my orthopedist appointment, when the chance for snow-showers increases to 50% and the high temperature will be only 31°!
Today, I have an appointment to get my few hairs cut and my beard trimmed. Mary has a trip to the grocery store planned. Otherwise, we'll walk the fur-children and that's about it. Since it is Armistice Day, or Veteran's Day, as it is now known, there is no edition of the Grand Haven Tribune being published, so STWD and I won't be going to The Bookman for her morning treat. Ciao.
