Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 3:30 a.m. in "The City."
Around 1:30 a.m., I was awakened by the now familiar licking of my elbow. That lick meant that Ginger wanted to go out. I went downstairs and she proceeded to three-peat and then I sat down to eat a salad while watching the overnight reruns of one of the national news channels. STWD came down too, but she was not inclined to go out. While I was there, I made some vegetable broth for future cooking activities and then I came back here to blog.
When I opened the door to let Ginger out, the winds were as advertised by the Winter Weather Advisory, that has been issued by the NWS to accompany the Gale Force Wind Warning that they had also issued. If that isn't enough, there is also a Lakeshore Flood Advisory to add to the excitement.
Waves as high as 10 - 14 feet on the "Big Lake" can be expected north of Muskegon, while waves of 12 - 16 feet in height have been forecast from Holland to GH. All of the is caused by the Gale Force Winds that may gust to 50 knots!
The Winter Weather Advisory was issued due to the wintry conditions that are plaguing our little corner of the world, with predictions of two to four inches of snow that will be causing periodic "White Out" conditions, making driving hazardous. Mary and I experienced the beginnings of this storm yesterday in our journey to Holland to get the car serviced at a dealer that we will never, and I do mean never, ever, patronize again. Their business practices are terrible and the dealership does not feel welcoming. This particular dealer group has been gobbling up smaller dealer groups of late and I/we don't like how they do business. It took over one and one-half hours to get the oil changed and the tires rotated. We like our KIA soul, but we are willing to trade it in to avoid that dealership, since there are no closer KIA dealerships..
Circling back to the weather, we have a current temperature of 28°, the lowest it will get overnight However, as you might imagine, the wind is making it feel much colder. Today's high after the sun rises @ 7:30 a.m. will be 34° with the Winter Weather Advisory and the Gale Force Wind Warning ending by 10:00 a.m., well before the sun sets @ 5:25 p.m.
Mary has plans to go to Hemlock Crossing County Park this afternoon @ 3:00 p.m. to see a presentation regarding owls, but I think that I'll ask her not to go and instead stay home and watch college football with me, or do some crafty/knitting/sewing thing, or maybe some type of kitchen activity. I don't like the idea of her driving on icy roads, having witnessed/experienced the idiots on the road yesterday as we were on our way to and from Holland.
As I noted, my plans for today call for me to start with the football game between the #18 Spartans of MSU and the visiting #10 Buckeyes of Ohio State. Then I plan to segue to the game between the #4 Wolverines of Michigan as they visit the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Huskies of NIU played the Rockets of Toledo University on November, 7, defeating the Rockets, 38 - 15. The Huskies play the Red Hawks of Miami of Ohio on November 14 @ 7:00 p.m.
Last evening, I encouraged Mary to make a dinner of vegan tuno and chips nachos with cheese and tomatoes. I had a taste for chips with tuno/cheese dip and that gave her the idea to make tuno casserole, so we compromised on the tuno nachos. I liked it, but we were both hungry, so it is hard to be sure how good it was. As I said, I liked it.
We will try to get the fur-children to go for a walk this morning and maybe by the time we are ready to go, the winds will have died down and the snow will have stopped swirling. Ciao.
