Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation and across the world. It is just past 5:30 a.m. in "The City."
This is my second try at writing this blog, as my large fingers once again pushed the wrong keys and wiped out my previous efforts. Sigh.
We have a current temperature of 62° under cloudy-skies, following a Severe Weather Warning expired @ 4:45 this morning. According to the NWS, a line of T-storms was moving through the area, bringing lightning, thunder, and heavy rain. Here in GH, I saw one bolt of lightning out the WW, and heard one clap of thunder to go with what wasn't really a heavy rain. Go figure. We anticipate a high today of 64°, with a 100% chance for additional T-storms this morning. I wasn't there, but I suspect that STWD repaired to her hide-e-hole at that clap of thunder and is probably still there. The sun will rise @ 6:06 a.m. and set later @ 9:20 p.m.
I made it to my monthly Coffee and Coloring session at the library and I learned some new things and began to work on one of the drawings in my Grand Haven Coloring Book that I got a few months ago. I like my results so far. I am still musing on the background for Mary's dragon picture, so while I think I have a handle on what I want to do, I won't attempt the final incarnation until I have practiced more.
While I was @ the Coffee and Coloring session, Larry Halverson, the Loutit Library's Director of Public Relations, and coincidentally, the organizer of the monthly Irish Jam Sessions dropped in to chat. He told me that in his capacity as Director of Public Relations, he has made arrangements for a twice-monthly get together of artists of all skill levels to meet and talk about all things art beginning in July. I hoping that I can learn some new things, because I am a Visual/Spatial and an Interpersonal learner, as described by Howard Gardner of Harvard University, in his seminal work on Multiple Intelligences. He used to list seven, but I think he has expanded that list now. At any rate, I'm hoping for more insights as I try new things.
Baseball news yesterday was .750 in baseball parlance.
The 33 - 26 Cubs are in a statistical tie with the Brewers for 1st place in the NL Central. The Cubs behind a 10K pitching performance by starter Kyle Hendricks and great closure by Pedro Strop, took care of business, over the 31 - 28, 2nd in the NL West Rockies, 6 - 3. As usual, Javier Baez was mister everything, with great fielding, great base-running and a home run to back up Hendricks. The Cubs and Yu Darvish play the Rockies tonight @ 8:05 p.m. EDT. By the by, the Cubs are continuing to stockpile pitching versus position players in this year's draft.
My beloved, 31 - 29, 3rd place in the AL East Red Sox, also took care of business, beating the woeful, 5th place, 19 - 41 KC Royals, 8 - 3. If the Sox are to have any chance of repeating their World Series™ appearance of last season, they have to beat teams like the Royals. The Sox and the Royals play again tonight @ 8:15 p.m. The Sox are drafting position players this year.
The 23 - 34, 3rd place in the AL Central Tigers, took out the 35 - 23, 2nd place in the AL East Rays, 9 - 6. Miguel Miggy Cabrera, broke the tied game open with a grand-slam to ice the win. The Tigers and the Rays play again tonight in Tampa Bay @ 7:10 p.m. The Tigers are drafting position players, like the Sox.
The 6th place West Michigan White Caps, with a record in the MWL East of 20 - 38. fell to the 7th place Dayton Dragons, 2 - 3 last night. The Caps and the Dragons take the field again tonight @ 7:05 p.m.
Today, we have indoor chores, a meeting of our History Book Club, the last until September, and that's about it. We decided to meet at our favorite watering hole, just because. Ciao.
