Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation and across the world. It is just past 4:00 a.m. in "The City.
I have only one-half of a train spotting from yesterday, but I can say for certain that the southbound run on the RSTL occurred @ 9:53 a.m. as I leapt from my bed and saw MMRR EMD-2 locomotives 2029 and 2019 pass by towing 10 CHCs, 10 DBTCs, six DWTCs, and five GTCs. I am assuming that we were out enjoying the day when the afternoon, northbound run took place.
As an aside, I didn't blog yesterday because I went to bed around 11:30 Thursday night and stayed there until around 11:00 a.m. yesterday.
We have a current temperature of 39° under cloudy/foggy skies. Today's high temperature of 58° will be a delight, albeit with mostly-cloudy skies. Tomorrow's high temperature will reach 66° with rain showers likely in the afternoon. The sun will rise @ 7:18 a.m. and set later @ 8:16 p.m.
Mary soloed to the grocery store yesterday afternoon while I stayed behind to do some light clean-up after the fur-children and some light clean-up after Mary's adventures in cooking from the lunch hour.
As of now, the concoction that she made for lunch, a rice and beans dish, while edible, would be better consigned to the ash heap of history. Even her considerable culinary skills required assistance from some sauces to make this internet recipe just okay.
I now have MLBTV, but I have been sorely disappointed by the results of the teams that I wanted to view.
First, the 1 - 6 in the NL Central Cubs have been a huge disappointment. Their starting and relieving pitchers have been unable to get anyone out, or so it seems. As an example, yesterday's starter, LHP Jose Quintana, watched from the dugout as the Cubs fell to the 1st place in the NL Central Brewers, 10 - 13. Cubs pitching coach, Tommy Hottovy, stated the obvious, the Cubs pitchers are under pressure to win games and that is contributing to the increased issuance of walks and their ever-increasing team ERA. This evening, once again in Milwaukee's Miller Park, the Cubs and the Brewers will go at it when the game begins @ 7:10 p.m. EDT.
Second, my beloved, 2 - 7 in the AL East Red Sox, dropped a one-sided game to the AZ D'Backs, 8 - 15. Starter, RHP Rick Porcello, is now 0 - 2 and proved totally ineffective. He was supposed to go deep into the game, thus allowing LHP Brian Johnson to make the series ending start on Sunday. However, Johnson ended up relieving for Porcello, who didn't get out of the 5th. Another sign of the problems with the Sox' pitching staff is that IF Eduardo Nunez took the mound in the 8th, to save someone else from the beleaguered bullpen. The Sox and the D'Backs play once again tonight @ 8:10 p.m. EDT.
Third, the 5 - 3 Tigers did not play yesterday, however their pitchers are surprising everybody this season. In fact, RHP and starter, Spencer Turnbull, recorded 10 Ks, but did not get the win, which went to LHP Blaine Hardy out of the bullpen as the Tigers won the game, 5 - 4 over the Royals. Today's game against the Royals takes place in Comerica Park @ 1:10 p.m. EDT, when LHP Matt Moore takes the hill.
Lastly, the 0 - 2 in the Midwest League East, West Michigan WhiteCaps, AKA the Caps, have their home opener today at the Fifth/Third Ballpark starting @ 4:00 p.m. That game will be against the 2 - 0, tied for 1st place in the MWL East, South Bend Cubs. All indications are that the crowd will enjoy a beautiful day at the ballpark.
By the by, the MSU Spartans men's basketball team takes the floor @ 8:49 p.m.tonight against the Red Raiders of Texas Tech, as the Spartans attempt to reach the National Championship game against the winner of the game between the Tigers of Auburn and the Cavaliers of Virginia.
Today, we may get up to Muskegon and The Camera Store, to pick up a part that Mary had on order following her macro-lens session. I am not certain what it is used for, but she seems eager to have it.
This should be a good day to walk the fur-children with only a light jacket or sweater. The fur-children have been itching to get out for a walk fur ever. I also have to find time in the kitchen to make more of Mary's favorite and oft requested vegan Italian meatballs. I started them the other day, but without the required mushrooms, the meatballs became a quickie beest, not my favorite.
So, that looks like enough for one day. Ciao.
