Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation and across the world. It is just past 3:00 a.m. in "The City.
I woke up in my Media Room Lazy Boy after watching the Cubs begin the inexorable process of snatching another defeat from the jaws of victory. Fortunately, I was asleep when the roof caved in. Each time I watch, I doubt that they can find a new and innovative way to lose, and then they do. Sigh. At any rate, the final score was 4 - 6, as the now 1 - 4 in the NL Central Cubs, lost to the now 2 - 3 in the NL East Braves. Essentially, the Cubs wasted a solid effort by LHP Jon Lester as he handed off the game to the totally inept bullpen. The Cubs also wasted Willson Contreras' 1st home-run. In the end, RHP, reliever Steve Cishek, couldn't put the cork back into the bottle.
The only bright spot is that the Cubs signed IF David Bote to a contract extension, locking him in for several more seasons at a reasonable rate, if you believe that $15 million until 2024 is reasonable for any player. The Cubs will finish up their series in Atlanta tonight against the Braves as Yu Darvish once again attempts to prove that his career isn't over and that he is worth the $126 million over six years that the Cubs ponied up for his services. The game begins @ 7:20 p.m. EDT.
Fortunately, my beloved, now 2 - 5 in the AL East Red Sox fared better, as they defeated the As, 6 - 3. However, LHP Chris Sale did not get the win despite his improved performance. That honor went to RHP Matt Barnes from the bullpen. The Sox offense is beginning to gel, as Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, and Mitch Moreland are starting to get hits. The Sox and the As continue their series this afternoon in Oakland @ 3:37 p.m. as LHP Eduardo Rodriguez takes the mound.
The Tigers home opener is today @ 1:10 p.m. in Comerica Park with a high temperature of 43° in the forecast under cloudy skies. The Tigers now own a 4 - 3 record in the AL Central, following their win over the hated Yankees, 2 - 1. That's good enough for 2nd place. LHP Matthew Boyd notched 12 Ks, but the win went to his reliever, RHP Buck Farmer.
We talked to Adam yesterday and he is feeling well. That's always good news for any parent.
Mary, Ginger, and I spotted both ends of the train runs on the RSTL yesterday. At 9:00 a.m., Mary reported that MMRR locomotives 2019 and 2025 passed, towing no cars and heading south. Later, Ginger alerted us to the passage of those same locomotives as they headed north, towing six CHCs, six DBTCs two DWTCs, and one GTC.
I baked my soon to be famous Funfetti Cookies for our book club yesterday. They were a hit, as usual. Rather than bring the remaining cookies home, we saved ourselves and offered some to the staff at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum and also at JWs. The cook and the bartenders at JWs could not believe that these were vegan cookies that used no dairy products in their preparation. They raved abouit the taste,. I guess that's the point, to taste great and not need animal products in the process.
Here in GH, we have a current temperature of 36° under cloudy-skies. Today's high is forecast by he NWS to reach 48°, also under cloudy skies, once the sun rises @ 7:23 a.m. and well before it sets @ 8:13 p.m.
In between, I hope to relax before I go to my P/T appointment @ 1:00 p.m. Later, it's on to our chiropractor. I am still wrestling with my recovering shoulder and also with my baking yak. We also have a visit from a landscaper regarding our spring clean-up @ 5:30 p.m. Ciao.
