Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 4:00 a.m. in"The City."
We took Ginger to doggie daycare yesterday as we set out on the most recent leg of Yarn Quest 2017 to Henny's Yarn Shop in Caledonia, MI. It is a nice little shop on Main St., yes, the main street in Caledonia, MI is indeed named Main St., like over 3,100 other towns and cities in the US.
But I digress. We go there only once per year for Yarn Quest because the distance is over 50 miles and it takes anywhere from one hour 15 minutes to one hour 30 minutes to get there. Plus, if you don't follow the route prescribed by the GPS system in your car, you have to travel through some heavy city traffic instead of the more idyllic country lanes that we took on our trip home. Oh well, maybe next year.
The weather was mostly nice with only occasional drops of rain hitting the windscreen. We dodged the storms that came later in the day.
Speaking of the weather conditions, it is dry right now with a current temperature of 44° per both the NWS and my own DTWS with its FPMS. Later today, the high temperature is forecast to reach 47° with a 60% chance of rain and winds of 20 mph. The long-range 10-day forecast indicates that it will be cool here in West MI for another week or more before the forecast calls for 70° temperatures two weeks from today. The cool temperatures will slow the development of my garden plantings until then.
Sports news yesterday was once again mixed. The Cubs took it on the chin from the visiting Phillies by a final score of 2 - 10. By late in the game, manager Joe Maddon had pulled regular first baseman Anthony Rizzo and regular third baseman Kris Bryant and had backup catcher Miguel Montero play first base, regular catcher Wilson Contreras play second, and generally regular left-fielder Kyle Schwarber move to catcher. Schwarber was drafted by the Cubs as a catcher, but due to his knee injury last year, he has not taken many turns behind the dish. Maddon wants to keep him comfortable there, so hence the turn. The loss leaves the Cubs in a statistical tie for 1st place in the NL Central with the Milwaukee Brewers. Next game for the Cubs is tonight @ Wrigley Field against the Phillies @ 8:05 p.m.
The Tigers fared better against the Indians with a 7 - 1 victory to also move them to 13 - 12 in the AL Central. However, in their case, that's only good enough for 4th place. The Tigers once again play the Indians tonight @ Comerica park @ 7:10 p.m.
My beloved Red Sox dropped another game to the AL East-leading Orioles by a final score of 2 - 5. That also gives the Sox a record of 13 - 12, in their case in the AL East, but good enough for 3rd place. They once again play the Orioles @ Fenway Park tonight @ 7:10 p.m.
The Caps take the home-field again tonight after a day off. Their opponent will be the Clinton, IA Lumberkings @ 6:35 p.m. The Caps have an MWL East record of 15 - 9. tied with Mary's sentimental favorites, the Dayton, OH Dragons.
Otherwise, we made that trip to Caledonia and I got my few hairs cut, read more and Mary indexed more along with cooking lunch and dinner. I liked her dinner pizza of homemade dough, onions, and vegan vegeroni on homemade sauce. The fur-children slept more when they weren't eating or going for a short walk.
Today, I'll continue reading and Mary will continue indexing. The sun will rise today into cloudy skies @ 6:36 a.m. and set @ 8:47 p.m. Ciao.
