Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, across the nation and across the world. It is just past 1:30 a.m. in "The City."
How best to start this blog? To be, or not to be? Yes, that is the question, whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take... Oops, I was channeling "The Bard of Avon" there for a second. I guess that it is indeed nobler to suffer the vagaries of the ever changing weather here in W. MI.
Truth be told, the weather in our little corner of the world is ever changing. Is it a sign of the times? I cannot say, but I can say that we have a current temperature of 36° under cloudy skies with a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 1:00 p.m. today That advisory may last even longer. Plus, there is a 60% chance for rain showers accompanying today's high temperature of 39°. Monday's high is still forecast by the NWS to reach 44°, albeit with a 100% chance for showers. I guess like Chicago, if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute.
It is important to delineate between Climate Change, i e, Global Warming, and weather, as climate produces weather conditions and climate is long term, whereas weather is what is happening locally and is constantly changing. I wish that everyone could get their heads wrapped around that simple idea. Alas, too few people are willing to change their lifestyles, preferring to be like the proverbial ostrich and bury their heads in the sand
We didn't do much yesterday. I read the weekend edition of the Grand Haven Tribune and finished the crossword puzzle from that edition along with the one from Friday's newspaper. We got up on the late side and Mary put together a lunch of vegan toona on a bed of lettuce before she headed out to do battle with the hordes at that big box nearly everything store. She came back with her normal level of love/hate. She likes the prices, but hates the experience overall. She also prefers the produce at the smaller grocery store that is about 1/4 mile from that big-box store.
Once she returned, Mary stopped to finish the loaf of bread, wheat as it turns out, which if I had read the note that she left, I would have known. Oh well, at least I didn't break from my usual pattern of obtuseness. She put that loaf into the oven and then finished unloading the groceries. Somewhere in there, she found time to clear more of the ice and snow from the deck and driveway. I tried to stop her before she overdid to minimize her aches and pains, but like me, she likes to get things done that she had planned to do. I almost forgot, the bread came out of the oven to sit for one hour and now awaits our next meal.
As she didn't have a plan for dinner, I suggested that we have nachos. Mary agreed and created a cheesy sauce using a roux made with wheat flour and soy milk as a base for the cheesy flavor of the nutritional yeast. Along with some vegan taco filling on the corn chips she popped the whole shebang into the oven and shortly thereafter, we had dinner.
We watched some TV together and then I traveled to the media room for another of my favorite activities, a Hallmark Channel Movie and some car shows. I fell asleep along the way and awoke to Ginger licking my hand.
Otherwise, today is the annual spectacle that the NFL likes to call The Super Bowl, this one being Super Bowl LIII. Unless the Lions are in it, which they never have been, or the Bears, who have been involved in two, the only reason to watch is to see the Patriots and their Über QB, Tom Brady, lose. I am impatiently awaiting the arrival of spring, signaled by the pitchers and catchers reporting to their respective training camps on the 12th.
So, like millions across the nation and across the world, Mary and I will watch to see the commercials and that's about it. I have been promised popcorn too, so my day will be complete.
The sun will rise today@ 7:58 a.m. and set @ 5:59 p.m. Ciao.
