Let's start with some really good news. Cubs Win! Cubs Win! Cubs Win!, The "W" flag is flying high over the scoreboard in Wrigley Field. Starting pitcher, Jon Lester, got his first ever major league home run and a single, but was pulled in the 5th inning and so he did not qualify for that win.
Anthony Rizzo came back strong from his aching yak and got two home runs, while Ian Happ and Javier Baez each got solo dingers en route to a 16 - 4 drubbing of the AZ D'backs! The Cubs now have a record of 57 - 48 and lead the Brewers in the NL Central by 2.5 games. The D'backs are a solid team with a 60 - 48 record of their own in the AL West, but still, they are in 3rd place in that NL West. The Cubs and the D'backs play again tonight @ 8:05 p.m.
The Tigers rallied to defeat the now 2nd place Yankees in the AL East, by a score of 4 - 3. The Tigers are still not a good team, but I'll take the win. The Tigers win over the Yankees propelled my beloved Red Sox back into 1st place by 1/2 game over the Yankees. The Tigers and the Yankees play today @ 1:05 p.m.
Which of course leads me to describe a wild game in Boston last night. The game was a see-saw affair that culminated in a wild 9th inning that included a three-run walk off homer by Christian Vasquez en route to a 12 - 10 win. The Sox now have a record of 59 - 49 in the AL East and they play the Indians again tonight @ 7:10 p.m.
Sadly, the Caps finally lost one, this time to the Lake, County, OH Captains, 2 - 5. The Caps are still in 1st place in the MWL East with a 2nd half of the season record of 26 - 10, and a 2.5 game lead over the 2nd place Ft. Wayne, IN TinCaps, tonight's opponent @ 7:05 p.m.
I have only one-half of a trainspotting for you. At 10:24 a.m. yesterday, locomotives 2057 and 2019 rolled through heading south on the RSTL. Both locomotives were looking sharp in their MMRR livery with shiny, freshly washed exteriors. In tow, they had 11 CHCs and 18 DBTCs. I did not witness a northbound passage, so I expect that I'll see that today.
I made it to the chiropractor yesterday morning and I am going again this morning. I also checked on going to P/T and found that that requires a referral from a physician. So, I called a spinal specialist physician that I have seen in the past about an appointment and learned that to see him requires a referral from my internist.
In Illinois, that isn't the way it is done. However, I believe that in Illinois and elsewhere, they call this type of system vigorish or the amount charged by a bookie to take a bet from a gambler. In this case, everybody gets a piece of the action. And they say that it is hard to see a doctor in Canada. Sheesh!
Mary made her world-famous vegan spicy vegan sausages while I was out and then met me at JWs or libations.
Today, we plan to drop Ginger at daycare and then travel to Holland for some picture framing and perhaps some cooking related items if we can't get them in the new store in downtown GH.
The current temperature is 69° under clear skies as we drop down to an overnight low of 64° before rebounding to today's high of 79° under partly cloudy skies. Tomorrow, the NWS has revised their precipitation forecast downward to a 60% chance for p.m. T-storms. Maybe my plans to go to GH's Waterfront Stadium for a concert would have been rained out and I wouldn't feel bad about not being able to walk that far.
The sun will rise this morning @ 6:36 a.m. and set this evening @ 9:04 p.m. Ciao.
