Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. We've just passed 12:30 a.m. in "This City." A current temperature of 60° is lower than yesterday's high of 69°, but we won't get any lower than 56°. Today, the high of 68° will also feature a 40% chance of rain. Tuesday through Thursday will be in the low 60s with sunny skies. Friday we drop to the lower 50s, but it will still be sunny.  What's not to like?

Today, there are supposed to be some war games in the Gulf of Mexico. Planes flying, bombs dropping into the Gulf, helicopters whirling through the air, and all of that within 10 to 20 miles of where we are. We may see the activity, or not, depending on the weather. Mary and I will be on the deck to see what we can see, Sugar the Weather Dog will be hiding somewhere if she hears anything. If we get some pictures, I'll share.

Speaking of pictures, I have some to share from our morning walk on Sunday and our evening walk on Saturday. We made it all the way to the far end of the shopping area on and back on Sunday morning, a distance of about two miles. Sugar was spent at the end of our walk, as was I, due to the warm temperatures. Let's just say that the pictures can't really do the blue skies, warm waters, and the overall climate justice. But, if you use your imagination, you may be able to feel what we are feeling. Ciao.

Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be, It is less than one hour before the sun rises at 6:35 a.m. in "This City." We have a current temperature of 34° as we travel towards the high later today of 64° under sunny skies. Tomorrow promises to be even better, albeit a bit more cloudy.

We had a great day yesterday. Mary and I finished our work and sent it on it's way. We often say we feel like proud parents. In this case, I think we felt more like we had watched a child leave home for school as we made plans to take over his/her room for other purposes.

We did not accomplish much else, but that's okay, because we have all of today to do as little as possible. Mary and I, well mostly Mary, did some batch cooking in her adopted kitchen, in spite of the death of the crock pot. She was resilient and worked around that handicap. Today, she plans a stir fry that will require her to be even more adaptive as she uses a stock pot to stand in for her favorite wok. She has already chopped the various ingredients and made the rice, so I think and hope she'll be successful.

We will be taking Sugar the Weather Dog for her morning walk after watching some TV while lying in bed. What's not to like? After the TV viewing, it will be time for breakfast and more relaxation.

I took some pictures a few nights and days ago, that I think turned out well. So I'll tell you that the sun will set later today at 5:30 and that we are ready. I'll include those pictures now.
Just a  way cool view of the full moon

A view of the sky over the Gulf of Mexico from our "Patio"

I don't know which planet is high in the sky, but the full moon was gorgeous

Sky and the sound.

I like this one.

Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 1:30 a.m. in "This City." As I gaze out the southern Weather Window, I can see that the rain is still falling, but it should be gone by the time the sun rises at 6:36 a.m. Then we'll get a high of 57° under sunny skies, albeit with windy conditions. In other words, it's all good here.

We had a good day yesterday. I played with Abaigeal, and Mary worked. I also had a request from one of my loyal readers to add some pictures of what the weather here looks like. While pictures can't really do it justice, I have included a couple of pictures that I took about two weeks ago while Mary and I were out on one of the 70+° days we had then. Those days will be returning by this weekend. In fact, when we go out later this morning with Sugar the Weather Dog, these pictures depict what we can expect to see today.

The beach not too far from where we are staying

A view from the ramparts of nearby Fort Pickens. Across the bay is the lighthouse on the Pensacola Naval Air Station
I have some editing to do for my boss today, but that is a job that I do while sitting, so I have to be sure that we get out at least twice today to enjoy the sunshine. Sugar will appreciate that too.

Otherwise, not much is on tap for today. More music, more newspaper reading, more crossword puzzle solving while most people are at work. In short, retirement agrees with me most of the time.

I think I'll take my camera with me as we walk and take some pictures of the everyday things we see when we are out and about. Who knows, I may take something that really shows, not tells, what it is like here on a daily basis. Rain is not the norm, sunshine is.

That sun in the sky will set today at 5:27 p.m. In between, it should be gorgeous. I plan to enjoy it. Ciao.

Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just passing 3:00 a.m. in "This City." A current temperature of 49° will lead us to today's high of 53°. Right now it feels like the temperature outside this southern Weather Window is 46°. Also today, we have a forecast for a 100% chance of rain. That rain is forecast to begin about one hour from now, and I hope to be fast asleep by then. No T-storms are predicted, so except for the disturbance in the force that goes with a rain shower,Sugar the Weather Dog will be happy, though not about missing her morning walk. Neither will I. Mary and I have gotten used to walking here, but neither of us likes walking in the rain. Well at least I don't. In GH, the current temperature is 25° with light snow falling. Today their high temperature will be 25°. Need I say more?

Yesterday, we drove over to the city of Pensacola to see an antique store we had seen in the newspaper. It was big, as promised, and had many vendors as promised, but we've seen a better layout and selection in smaller venues near home. Oh well, that's life in the big city.

We stopped off at a local restaurant and sports bar near here as we headed home, and then actually headed home, Sugar the Weather Dog was glad that she didn't starve to death waiting for us, and that was evident by her excited behavior upon seeing us. Of course, she is that excited when she goes for the morning walk or gets her morning biscuit treat too.

Mary had some work to do, and that lasted only as long as she could handle this apparently mind-numbing task. I spent some time with Abaigeal and reading the newspapers before working the crossword puzzles from each. I think I had the better day.

Mary tried the new sauerkraut that we got the other day on her famous Swiss cheese and sauerkraut sandwiches. She also made thousand island dressing from the ingredients she had on hand. All good.

Today, I plan to repeat my efforts from yesterday and as I understand it, so too will Mary. We have to go out to the local big box office supply store to get something printed when Mary finishes today's efforts. Naturally, we must take try to  the morning walk with the intrepid weather dog, and then I can settle in to do as little as possible. While we are not technically on vacation, I am treating this trip as such.

Today will begin with the sunrise at 6:37 a.m., and end with the sunset at 5:28 p.m. Ciao.

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 2:30 a.m. in "This City." A current temperature of 33° looks like that's about as low as it will get this morning. It does feel like 25° due to the wind chill. We hope to rebound to a high later today of 53° under cloudy skies. Tomorrow, we'll reach 57°, with a 70% chance of rain. We'll have to wait until Saturday before we get back to the 60s. In GH, the current temperature is 19°, but it feels like 4°. Tomorrow, they may receive another one inch of the white stuff. They will will have to wait until Friday to reach the 30° mark.

Yesterday, Mary worked, I did the laundry, and swept the house. When you stay in one place too long, you end up having to so a little house cleaning. Even here, my work is never done. I also unloaded the dishwasher twice following our Super Bowl™ party. As I noted previously, most every dish and piece of silverware we had put aside for our use was dirtied. Otherwise, I did get in some time with Abaigeal after I highlighted more for my boss. She was working too, so I guess that I can't complain. Then it was time to watch some TV and work the crosswords. Sugar the Weather Dog, of course, got that abbreviated walk in the morning that I had predicted. With the way the wind was blowing, we just didn't have it in us to go further. Mary did take the intrepid one for an afternoon safari, but that too was abbreviated.

We traveled to the local favorite watering hole and had a Po Boy sandwich and fries, This osandwich consisted of fried green tomatoes and sauteed vegetables and it was delicious, almost as good as what Mary makes. (How's that for sucking up?). Actually, Mary does a better sandwich when she has the time and the appropriate ingredients on hand. That is one advantage that a restaurant has. Then it was time for home, some additional TV viewing while Mary knitted and I vegged, and then my bedtime.

Today, I have to wash Sugar's bed clothes, but that's pretty much of a removal, wash, dry, and reinstall, No special attention required. More playing with Abaigeal and TV viewing after another abbreviated morning walk with Sugar. I'll read the local newspapers and that looks like another complete day.

The sun will rise later this morning at 6:37 a.m. and set at 5:26 p.m.

Stephany, our condolences on the passing of your grandfather. Our love and prayers are with you.

Ciao.

Monday, February 2, 2015

Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 3:00 a.m. in "This City." A current temperature of 36° will lead us to a post sunrise high of 51°. In GH, the temperature is currently 7°, although it feel like -8°. Here there will be riptides, while in GH, there will be light snow and a high of 22°.

Let's talk about yesterday. Mary and I took a nice long walk with Sugar the Weather Dog, and then Mary did some work while I watched TV and did crosswords. Sugar was exhausted, so she just watched the rains roll in around 12:00 p.m. Then she headed upstairs to find a hide-e-hole. Mary came down and we prepared our Super Bowl™ repast. We means that I watched a lot as Mary chopped, but that's a contribution, isn't it?  Sugar was there to assist in her role as household Sous Dog.

Since we had to wait for some things to soak and others to refrigerate, Mary and I took advantage of a lull in the rain to take a short afternoon walk with the intrepid weather dog. When we returned, the finishing touches were put on the football repast and then we settled in to watch some commercials and then the game itself.

We came away with a new found respect for the pain that football players experience and an even more profound level of incredulity at the final call by the Seahawks coaching staff. While the Patriots won, we felt as though the Seahawks lost the game more, if that makes sense.

Today's weather will preclude a lengthy walk with Sugar, but we'll take her for a bit of a constitutional for all of us. Sugar is a perfect catalyst to get us up and out when we may not really feel like going. Other than that, Mary has more work to do, and I have to get in some time with Abaigeal. Mostly though, I plan to veg out. I do have to empty and then reload the dishwasher, since I think we used nearly all of the silverware and dishes in the house.

The sun will rise at 6:37 a.m. and set at 5:26 p.m. Ciao.

Sunday, February 1, 2015

Good morning or good evening, wherever you may be. It is just past 4:00 a.m. in "This City." By way of information, I got up about 40 minutes ago, and the internet access was out, So much for the true effectiveness of the visit by the technician. It could be like the internet at home, where it goes out in the wee hours of the a.m., only to return without rhyme nor reason. Or, it could be some other totally logical cause entirely. Like I've often seen/heard on television programs, "That's above my pay grade."

At any rate, the current temperature locally is 61°, and it feels like 61°. There will be a few days of the mid 50s later this week, but as February rolls on, the weather will only get warmer. Later today, after 1:00 p.m., the cloudy skies will begin to yield light rain that will get heavier as the afternoon progresses. The temperature will increase to about 67°. There is also a chance of T-storms to go with the warning of riptides. Sugar the Weather Dog will let us know if and when the T-storms are coming. We'll get her out for a nice long walk before that.

In GH, the forecast calls for a high today of 20° with a significant chance of an additional five - eight inches of snow. A current temperature of 22° feels like 11°. Not to worry about riptides though, the "Big Lake" is not very conducive to anyone but the strongest or hardiest swimmers or surfers.

Yesterday, Mary and I watched a little bit of news on the TV after walking with the intrepid weather dog. It wasn't the longest walk, and so Sugar didn't want to yield her position by the door when Mary and I were ready for our "regular" trip to the big city of Pensacola. However, she being smaller than we, our plans won out. A nice trip to the farmer's market, a stop at the health food store to join the other "free range shoppers", and then a stop at a local place in Pensacola for a vegetable pizza. This one was good, but maybe not as good as the previous place we visited in the past. A toss up perhaps.

Then it was time for home and a stop at the local favorite watering hole. A sandwich for supper, a rousing game of Yahtzee™, and it was time for bed. Do I feel old? Probably, but as I've remarked in the past, I am old, or at least older. Mary has much more energy than me. Maybe that's because she's younger.

Today, the morning walk will lead to some food preparation, TV watching, waiting for the annual commercial extravaganza called the Superbowl™, and indulging ourselves with some recipes we want to try. Mary has some work to do, but it shouldn't take her too long.

The sun will rise at 6:39 a.m. and set at 5:24 p.m., shortly before kickoff. Ciao.
